smilestorm:  My dog’s name is Findlay.  Any way he would go for a different spelling, so they wouldn’t completely rhyme?

We pronounce it like “finley” though.

I don’t think it matters. I have first cousins in my family that have the same exact name.

I guess I’m a little different in thinking….

My little one will have a cousin named Kinsley and I wouldn’t feel comfortable naming this baby Finley. That’s just me! When discussing boy names, we also chose to avoid Elliott and Eli because they were close to another cousin named Ellis. We are pretty close though and the kids will always be around one another.

smilestorm:  I have a cousin who’s name doesn’t just sound like mine….it IS mine. We’re less than a year apart and share a name. Never been an issue. Name your kid whatever you want.

Yeah, I wouldn’t think twice about this for a cousin. If it was siblings I might reconsider, but I think you’re fine with cousins, especially if you’ll be calling him Finn.

Go for it! Heck, my name is Carly & my brother called his son Charlie, I got a good giggle after that and was chuffed 😉 Wasn’t married then either so our names were almost identical.  His big sister would call us Car-wee and Char-wee

Do the name you like best no matter what or you will regret it. Finn is a great name!

I don’t think it is that big of a deal. If they were siblings it would be different. I agree with PP’s if they have different last names and you are calling him Finn anyway, it shouldn’t matter.

I wouldn’t worry about it. My nephew is Easton and our boy name is Rowan and it hadn’t even occurred to me until reading this post that they were similar. They’re cousins, not siblings. It’s fine!

I agree with PPs- I don’t see a problem with this.

I agree with pretty much everyone else who responded….use Finley…it’s not too similiar in my opinion since they’re cousins.  It’s your baby and you should get to name him whatever you guys like!  People always have an opinion about names, which is why ours will be kept under wraps until after delivery (even from family, so I don’t have to hear any snarky comments…)  Best of luck!
