My sister had a great idea to involve the men. Too bad none of my brother’s friends wanted to participate. (They were all young and I don’t think any were married with kids.) She was going to have a baby olympics.  Pushing a stroller through an obsticle course. Changing a baby doll’s diaper.  Drinking a beer from a bottle.

Here are some of the ones I copied as ideas for a friend’s baby shower this weekend. I was really keen on the one with the frozen babies in the water but for the life of me I can’t find 2″ baby dolls! Weird problem to have ๐Ÿ˜‰

Games:

1) Guess Mom’s Tummy Size: (Materials- String or yarn and scissors) Have each woman pull the yarn to the size they believe would fit perfectly around the Mother-To-Be’s center of her pregnant tummy. After everyone cuts their string, compare the results to the Mommy-To-Be’s actual tummy. Give a prize to the woman who is the most close! This is a baby shower favorite.

2) Never say “Baby”: (Materials- baby safety pins or another type of baby object you can place on a string for each woman at the party as well as string or yarn, enough for each woman to wear as a necklace). Have each woman place the necklace with the baby safety pins around her neck when she gets to the party. The rules for this baby shower game are given out at the beginning of the baby shower that whenever someone says the word “baby” during the shower, any woman who calls it out gets a pin from the other woman who stated the word. At the end of the baby shower, the woman with the most pins wins a prize.

6) Guess How Many Safety Pins: (Materials- Safety Pins and Jar). Pass around a jar full of baby safety pins. The one who guesses the closest wins a baby shower prize. A baby shower game favorite!

10) Baby Bingo: (Materials- Pens, Pre-Printed Bingo cards that use the numbers of how many people attend the baby shower) Prior to opening the baby shower gifts, number each gift on the box starting with one. If you know that 15 people will be attending your shower, pre-print bingo cards with numbers 1 through 15 and randomly place them on 15 cards. When the mommy-to-be’s decides to open the presents, she grabs the present she wants to open and reads the number out loud. As soon as someone receives bingo, they win the baby shower game and the baby shower prize.

19) Blindfold Diapering: (Materials- blindfold, baby lifesize doll(s), diapers). One of the funniest baby shower games is for the women break into teams (up to five persons per team). Each team has a doll, blindfold and diapers. The object is for each participant to place the blindfold on, take the current diaper off the doll and place the new one on while blindfolded. After the first person finshes diapering, they run to the next team-mate who places the blindfold on and has to do the same. The first team to finish diapering wins!

21) Baby Alphabet Game – Give each woman at the baby shower a pen and a piece of paper that has the alphabet written vertically down the left side of the page. The object of the game is for the woman to write one word that has to do with babies next to each letter of the alphabet. Set a timer for two minutes and whoever has the most baby words wins. (For example: A=alphabet, B=bottle, C=cuddly bear, etc).

39) Whose Water Breaks First (Materials – Medium size plastic babies, Clear disposable cups that will fit the plastic babies). This game is a great and fun game given to us by visitor Alejandra. Prior to the day of the baby shower, fill each of the cups with water enough to cover the plastic baby toys at least halfway (since they may float). Place the cups in the freezer until frozen stiff (you need to prep the night before). The day of the baby shower party, give a cup to all the women who attend the shower as they arrive. Whoever can melt the water the quickest or their water breaks gets the prize. The baby shower attendees can try to melt by blowing hot air on it or putting it in the sun (everything goes, let them get creative). It’s a game that everyone can play at the baby shower no matter what age or physical limitation they may have. Alejandra tells us at, “Once had a guest try to outsmart me and place the cup in the microwave but the plastic cup melted in the microwave and she was eliminated from the game (ha ha ha ha it was tooo funny).” I think this game will soon become a baby shower favorite!

47) Guess the Birth Time (1″ plastic baby figure, ice cube tray, string, water) – The night before take a small – 1″ or so plastic baby and place in an ice tray. Cover with water – you do not have to fill just enough to cover the baby – then place a string or piece of yard into the water. Freeze overnight. When the guest arrive hang the baby up over the kitchen sink or a bowl (something to catch the water). Then each guest should pick a time that they think the “baby’ will be born. When the baby falls out whoever is closest to the time wins. This creative baby shower game idea comes from Dana (thanks Dana!). She stated the first time she tried this game, they practiced a few days before to see how long the ice would take to melt. If it takes longer then the time allowed for the shower you may want to hang it up before the shower starts.

53) Find the Safety Pins (Materials: large bowl, long grain rice, safety pins ?(small or medium) and blindfold) – Fill bowl with rice and about 20 safety pins. Blindfold each participant from the baby shower for 1 minute and let the participant feel around in the bowl to see how many safety pins they can get. Keep score for each person playing. you would not believe how hard it is to tell the difference of the safety pin and the rice. Thanks Monita for this baby shower game idea.

  • Book Ideas: Everyone gets a card and you write your favourite kids book on it then they are collected and given to the mom-to-be. This one is great if the shower is for a first baby and most of the guests have kids.

Advice in Advance. Each guest gets a card and has to write a piece of advice for the baby as an adult. Mine was “Always tip your waiter and wear clean underwear” but I’m an asshat and I’m sure you would come up with something nicer.

At my soon-to-be sister-in-laws baby shower we played a game where everyone wrote down a farm animal & 5 numbers between 1 – 75. They used a bingo ball to get the numbers & any time someone’s number was called, they had to make the noise of the farm animal that they had picked. The first to have all 5 numbers called & had made the animal sound was the winner. It was hilarious listening to everyone make animal noises!

My favorite is guess the poop. Melt or mash edible things into a clean diaper, people have to taste and guess what is is.

Examples:
Melted chocolate
Beef Gravy
Mashed Prunes/raisins

@KH: I can’t deal with the baby poop game. It totally grosses me out! LOL! Maybe I don’t have a good enough sense of humor for that one…. ๐Ÿ˜‰

@bakerella:  I’m with you on that. I’ve definitely laid down the rule of “no fake poop” at my baby shower next month (as well as “no games where we comment on my size, because I am not emotionally stable enough to think that that is fun”).

@Lozza: I made sure with BOTH of my momma to be’s that we could play the guess the tummy size game and that they’d be okay with it. Actually, I should double check that with one of my friends, she had an emotional doctor’s appointment yesterday, LOL!

I am a big Baby Shower Bingo fan ๐Ÿ™‚

I also like the idea of having notecards in place of a guestbook for guests to write advice for the mom- to- be ๐Ÿ™‚

I also liked baby word scramble….we scrambled words like diaper, stroller, etc

Guess the nursery rhyme character……for instance..”broken breakfast” is Humpty Dumpty

We also did a game that listed old wives tales and we had to guess if they indicated a boy or a girl

Match the socks…..get a basket that has a lot of baby socks in it…shake them around and count how many socks each participant can match in a set amt of time. Too funny

I just wanted to add that if you’ve never done the safety pins in rice game, it probably sounds kinda dumb, but you’d be amazed at how HARD it is to find the pins! I thought it was a really fun game.  =)

We did three at my sister-in-laws:

1: Fill a CLEAR rubbermaid or smaller tub/bin of newborn baby diapers (count them!). Have each guest write their name and the # of diapers they guess is in the container. Make it tricky by stacking them every which way. Guests can lift bin but can not open it. Winner or closest to exact number receives a prize, and mom receives the bin of diapers to start her off!

2: Scrambers. Scramble 10-12 baby related words left at each place setting. Have guests try to unscramble the words while waiting for meal, etc. First one to unscramble each word wins a prize. Examples of words: bassinet, diapers, stroller, etc… Try to think of some difficult ones!

3: Wasn’t really a “game” per se but kept it interesting while mom was opening gifts. Set a regular kitchen timer, and when it goes off, whoever’s gift mom is opening at that time gets a prize. We had a lot of gifts to go through and it took a lotttt of time, but this definitely kept it interesting. It went off about 6 times during gift opening.

Ideas for prizes that they did were cute. I ended up with an adorable travel makeup bag. Others got cute mini board games, manicure nail kits, gift certificates/cards. Very cute!

I’m not a big game person for showers either. For a friend’s the only game we played was a diaper raffle, and it was great because the mom ends up with tons of diapers. People can bring in as many diapers as they want and get a raffle ticket per a certain amount of diapers. They gave out gift certificates as prizes. I also think the decorate a onesie thing is cute.
