My mom and Sisters hosted mine and I ended up just getting them all gift cards to a restaurant they liked. i think a vase or frame is a great idea, Wine is always a good gift too. Target has these pretty awesome mixers for vodka or champagne. Those may be neat with a bottle to go with it.

I’m not sure about what’s proper etiquette, but what about taking them out for a nice lunch or dinner as a thank you?  That way, you don’t have to worry about traveling with a gift.

I just had my baby shower and I ended giving my friend a crock pot slow cooker recipe book.  She’s a mom with a 9 months old and works full-time so I know she doesn’t always have the time to cook a full dinner meal.  She was very excited about it and luckly she did have a crockpot at home so it all turned out well. I also knew that she love cooking and trying new recipes at home.

I would definitely get them something that they like, gift card to a favorite restaurant/store, movie tickets, as suggested above-taking them out for lunch or dinner is a nice thank you gesture before they commute home, or you can always mail them a thank you note with a gift from a specialty food item you can order online.

I think the important thing to do is to acknowledge the work they have done to put your baby shower together, a verbal acknowledgement is nice, followed by a card and/or a small gift of your thanks is very much appreciated.

Good luck and you are going to have fun at your shower!

This is such a nice gesture! I have helped host at least 4 showers and have certainly never received any gifts but I also didn’t expect anything.

How about a small cooler or an insulated lunch bag from Thirty One with their initials on them?

I gave the hostesses nice towels with body wash and a note wishing their next shower be as wonderful as this one!  They seemed to like it!

@MrsB1015:  I want to hug you right now–I found an adorable apron and thermal bag on the Thirty One outlet sale for cheap!  I hope my hostess loves it!

Wow, I am actually sort of shocked at how many shower hostesses on this thread didn’t receive a hostess gift, or at the very least a thank-you card!  I always thought that was basic common-sense etiquette…

I have never been pregnant so I’ve never been on your side of it, but I recently hosted my first shower, and my friend gave me a beautiful patterned pashmina scarf.  We live overseas so I’m not sure where she got it, but I know someplace like Macy’s which exists everywhere in the states would have similar stuff, plus they have sales and coupons all the time.  Good luck!
