Hi Bees,
I’m throwing a baby shower for my best friend and wanted a little community input and suggestions to see if there’s anything I should add to the big day.
So, tell me, what was your favorite part of your baby shower? And alternatively, is there something you wish you’d done that you didn’t get to do at your shower?
Thanks!

bb1721 : My shower was just women and I would have liked it if it were men too… after all, the baby is my husband’s too. It just makes it less awkward when opening gifts and it would have been nice for him to be able to socialize with his family since he doesn’t see them much due to where we live.
Overall, I enjoyed myself and I was happy that there were no ridiculous games. My mom and sister hosted at my mom’s house. They had it catered by a local italian restaurant and there were about 30 guests (that’s why it was just women, which makes sense). Overall, I thought they did a really nice job. I’m sure your friend will be happy with whatever you do.

We did a co-ed shower, which was important to me. One thing we did was everyone wrote us a piece of advice, and we read them and the best one got a prize. Our family and friends wrote some really sweet and funny things, and I still have the box with all the notes we got!

citysparkle : Thanks so much for sharing! I made sure it was a coed shower for the exact reasons you stated. Also our friend group is very close and everyone is part of a couple, so it felt weird to exclude the guys. Thanks!

I have never had a baby shower, but I have been to many. My favorite baby shower was actually one where the host had asked people to bring whatever gift unwrapped and ‘open’. She had a room set up to make it look like her nursery. This way people were able to see the nursery the way it would be set up and the Mother to be didn’t have to open gifts in front of people (which was great for her since she thinks its awkward and for guests). They also had a “name guessing game” and the name wasn’t revealed until she was born, but it was fun hearing all the names and they told us if the name they had chosen was in the pile.
Good Luck! I’m sure she will be happy with everything you do!

afenimore11 : I love that idea! Unfortuntely we’re throwing the shower outside, otherwise I would totally do that. Storing that idea away for later though. 🙂 Thanks!

bb1721 : You could still totally have an area set off to the side. This might actually make it even prettier! Just put up curtains between trees or poles or something to get the ‘room effect’
