Hello bees! I’m writing to you all seeking for advice 😀 my sister in-law is having a baby this summer and she is thinking about throwing a small baby shower (not sure when or if she will go through with it) but I wondering if you all could help me thinking of a cute gift for the baby. It’s a boy and I’m not good with baby shower gifts haha now I know most people buy clothes and sometimes bath stuff but I kinda want to buy her and the baby something more unique. But if you all think I should just stick with clothes and bath stuff then I don’t mind doing so 🙂 again I’m not so good when it comes to buying gifts if any of you are mothers then maybe this will be easy to answer 😀
PS. I’m sure some of you will ask this but she does not have a gift registry yet 🙂
I thank you all in advance!!!

Hopefully she is not considering hosting her own shower, as that would be inappropriate and greedy. Someone else in the family or a friend could host a shower if they so choose.
A gift I like to give is a collection of books and a small bookshelf to start the child’s library. You can add books for birthdays and Christmas’ as they child grows up.

Actually you would be surprised haha she enjoys thorwing parties even for herself, I’ve tried telling her that I can take care of it but she says no she has it. That’s actually a good idea, maybe I’ll get a few baby books and a few older kid books

I guess it really depends on what you want to spend. There are some great baby toys and swingsets or bouncers that I know my nieces used/use, but they can be on the pricier end for the good quality stuff (and with babies you must get good stuff for their security.)
That said, you can really never have too many socks, bibs, or cute onesies with a baby. Not only do they get wet often, but they outgrow everything in the blink of an eye! (My new 3-week-old niece is no longer in newborn clothes!) I would personally skip the bath stuff and toiletries. If it were my baby, I’d be very peculiar about the ingredients and the brand etc.

Yeah I may go with buying some clothes and maybe some cute shoes. Like you said you can never have too much lol

I’d honestly wait until she has her registry up. Sure people love buying the cute stuff, but what you really need is nursing supplies, linens for the crib/pack n play, a monitor, baby medicine, diapers, gear (like stroller or car seat). Not cute little baby bath robes or a million “funny” onsies. Practical stuff can still be cute, but it will be SO much more appreciated

Yeah, before I went to bed last night I kinda thought to myself that I should wait till she has a registry because her mom just gave her a bunch of baby stuff so I’m pretty sure she won’t be asking for too much stuff. We all live together (not including her mother) so the house isn’t big so we can’t have too much stuff but she is making it work 😀 if you don’t mind me asking and yes I could google it but how much are baby monitors now a days? I don’t think she needs the ones with the screen that can show the baby but just a simple monitor.

I’m also having a boy and it may be a good idea to get her start a registry. I really like https://babyli.st/
since the registry is very flexible.
I agree with what PPs say about not throwing your own baby shower… The only thing I’m involved in is baking favours (onesie or bib sugar cookies) and sending out Thank You cards.
If you are looking for toys, Sophie the Giraffe is a huge hit as it squeaks and also works as a teether. I opted for teething bibs instead. If your SIL plans on cloth diapering, helping her with a starter set also is very helpful.
