We got a Motorola from BRU.  It was highly recommended by friends and our Baby Bargains book.  It does ptz, night vision, and I like the handheld piece/screen.  It cost $200 full price, but we caught it on a sale and used gift cards to bring it way down.

We also have the motorola, but we got the more expensive version.  It’s pretty much the same as the $200 one except certain things.  It has two cameras instead of one and the main reason I wanted that version is because it had a temperature indicator so we know what the temp is in the baby’s room.  I really wanted to be able to check if the room was too warm or too cold.  It’s $300 full price but we ended up getting it for $200

I bought a security camera for $60 and hooked it up to my phone and my computer through our wireless. It works perfectly and was cheap. Let me know if you’d like details.

blondie_bride:  We have The first years talk and soothe video baby monitor. It was a gift from our baby shower and cost 100 bucks at Target. I really love it! Given that my baby isn’t here yet so I don’t know how amazing the night vision is yet. But the sound is great and so it the picture.

We have the Infant Optics DXR-5. We got it for around $90 on amazon, and it regularly sells for $170.

I really like it because it has night vision, and mutes itself unless the sound reaches a certain level in the room so you don’t have white noise playing all the time. I would recommend it.

blondie_bride:  Yes, you can hear the baby and also talk over the monitor. The night pictures is great, too.

Here’s the info:

(She gives both instructions and a link to the camera she (and I) used on amazon. Don’t be thrown off by how long the instructions are…it only took 10-15 minutes.)

And my dude at night:

Hope it helps!

blondie_bride:  We haven’t hooked it up to be able to look in on him when we’re out of the house (right now we have to be within our wireless range), but I think it’s theoretically possible. You’d have to do a bit more digging to make sure you can do it.

We just did it because I’m cheap, and at the time I bought it, I wasn’t really convinced I needed it (we didn’t use the video monitor until maybe 7 or 8 months). As kiddo has gotten older, I’ve been VERY glad to have it.
