Oh, your DD is a precious little thing!

I don’t have much to offer other than I grew up with a girl with the same problem. She was diagnosed from birth and had to have surgeries. She’s now in her late twenties and still going strong!

Wishing your family well.

X0JLYNN03:  I think as long as you empower her with regards to her scar, she will feel like it’s part of her and might wear low cut tops. I have a friend who had open heart surgery and it doesn’t restrict what she wears. She has always seen it as a sign that she is a survivor and brave. I think it helped that she was a baby when she had the surgery.

I’d use vitamin e creme on the scar to help with healing when the doctor says it’s okay. I used it for my appendectomy scar and I think it helped it fade.

Wishing your baby well…she’s adorable!

X0JLYNN03:  My best friend had a hole in her heart and had the surgery when she was around 4 years old I believe. She’s a healthy 26 year old today. She has a pretty noticeable large scar (which I’m sure, with medical advancements since then, they aren’t even half as noticeable today). She still wears low cut tops and rocks it. She’s even a fashion/jewelry designer and designs tops and necklaces to accentuate her scar. It’s pretty amazing. I’m sure your adorable little girl will be just fine!

My husband was born with a hole in his heart, it went unnoticed until one of his pediatrician appointments shortly after birth and he had it repaired via surgery as an infant. He’s 27 now and has no restrictions or anything! He played sports all through high school and college and we run half marathons and he’s been fine.

It’s hard not to worry when it’s your baby, but know that she’ll be alright!! Also, my husbands scar is along his ribs under his armpit and its only noticeable when he’s tan because the scar stays a little lighter.

X0JLYNN03:  A girl i went to HS with had actual heart replacement surgery when she was a child but i remember her always wearing v-necks and tanktops with cardigans. so it was pretty visable all the time, but thats how she wanted it. She loved her scar and i remeber looking at it thinking it was so cool.

Let her be proud of it. Perfect skin isnt a story but a cool scar is…

My younger brother was also born with a VSD. He’s now a perfectly healthy 27yr old! He bounced back from it very quickly when he was younger and never had any problems exercising/keeping up with his other classmates. He was a top athlete in high school (basketball).

I know your daughter will receive the best care possible. Best wishes for a speedy recovery!

I did not know him at the time, but our oldest nephew (he’s now 7) had open heart surgery at 4 months due to a hole in his heart. It was a heart defect, as he has Down Syndrome. He hasn’t had any issues with it since, and I’ve known him since he was 2.

X0JLYNN03:  Good luck with everything!  I can only imagine how scary that would be!  From what everyone’s saying it sounds like it’s fairly common/simple and everything will go great.  As a parent I know how hard it could be though, even small bumps and scrapes that our children get are hard for us!! I’m sure she’ll do great though, sending prayers!
