Just looking for opinions! What would you do if you received some bachelorette gifts that don’t fit and don’t have a gift receipt? When opening gifts, one of the gift-givers even remarked, “oh that’s not going to fit” in an embarrassed way, so she knows. Don’t even know where they were bought. I’m leaning toward letting it go and donating it charity. Already did a quick google search, no luck. Thoughts?

@weddingisdone: Do the gifts have any type of merchandise tags on them that would indicate to a retailer that the items are new and unworn?
If so, and if the gift-giver actually said, “Oh, that’s not going to fit,” and if you’re close friends with the gift giver, I think it’s fine for you to ask where the items were purchased so that you can attempt to exchange them for the correct size(s.)
On the other hand, if you’re talking about personal items, such as lingerie, and there are no merchandise tags attached to indicate that the items are new and unworn, you may not be able to exchange or return the items even if you learn where they were purchased or if the gift-giver provides you with a receipt.

@Brielle: I agree. Normally I’d give it away, but since the gift giver actually said “That’s not going to fit”, it wouldn’t hurt to politely ask her.
If it’s something intimate like lingerie, and you can’t excahange it, just bin it. Charities won’t be able to sell lingerie unless in a pack and clearly unused; and dumping unsellable items actually costs charities money.

@weddingisdone: You’re not rejecting the gift just getting it in a new size. I don;t think anyone would be uoset as a gift giver if you asked them to return it for your right size.

Thanks for weighing in! I’m going to have to toss one (lingerie, and nobody else is engaged yet so not worth holding onto for a regift), and the other I’ll think about asking the gift-giver.
