For the 3-8 time period the waterfront in Georgetown is the place to be. If is a nice day it will be packed and lots of fun. For the going out part you have 3 options (IMO). Adams Morgan, Georgetown or U Street. All of those areas have a ton of bars/clubs. I think Georgetown is a little more preppy and has some good chessy dance clubs. You will probably see another bachelorette party if you go to Third Edition. Adams Morgan has the most options on one block. I am starting to feel a bit old when I go there though (I am 33), but I spent a good part of my 20s on 18th street. U Street has a few more hip-hop places, and some great lounges and restaurants.

When are you planning this for?

You could do a river cruise on the Potomac – http://www.dc-cruises.com/special_events.php though they sometimes can be a little pricey. Georgetown is an area that has lots of restaurants on the water and great shopping. You could also visit Georgetown Cupcake (from the show DC Cupcake). There are also some good bars in the area that have rooftops. If you are going to be in Virginia at all there are several bars there that have rooftops as well. Georgetown is just a great area to walk around and there are bars there as well.

You could find something for dinner in Georgetown though it would be pricey. There are tons of good restaurants all over DC. There have been several DC threads about where to eat. One of my favorite restaurants is Oya.

For my bachelorette we went to Local 16 and Policy which are both a lot of fun. I also really like Gin and Tonic (in Georgetown). Adams Morgan has a TON of bars (Madams Organ is a fun one) and so does U street.

@mokara723: youre welcome! I also wanted to mention that you could do a winery, but most of the wineries are about 1-1.5 hours (at least) from downtown DC. There are some that are closer but they are still quite a drive to get to.

No wine tasting recs, but what about a cooking class? CulinAerie has great classes!

Chef Geoff’s is one of my husband’s favorite “nice” restuarants; I could take it or leave it, but I’m super picky about food quality, and we eat there fairly often.

And, since I live in AdMo, I have to agree that it’s kind of the place to be for bars!

Where in DC will you be? I know a couple of places in VA that have wine tasting classes but Im not that familiar with DC. Also, I would suggest looking through the Living Social 365 best things to do in DC – http://livingsocial.com/cities/1-washington-d-c/articles  There are a lot of great restaurant, bar and activity suggestions in there!!

@ddw: I am giving the thumbs down on my Chef Geoffs experience! Darling Husband took me there for my most recent birthday. We went to the one in Tysons. The wine was great and the food would have been good but it came out cold! For the price I was not that impressed and think there are so many other great restaurants in the area!

@PitBulLover: We’ve always had good service and experiences at the one downtown (in DC), but I agree – not worth the price. Hubby thinks so though; he loves their seafood, and their happy hour burgers and beers.

Maybe Lauriol or Alero would be other options. Not as expensive, but both are nice enough and have great atmosphere.

Sorry to hijak this thread, but my Maid/Matron of Honor keeps asking me what I would like for my bachelorette…I think she’s worried I might not like what she plans even though I’m sure I’ll love anything that includes my girls and some alcohol! 🙂

We will be having the party when I’m visiting northern VA in December.

I know it’s a ways off, but any ideas? I like the idea of staying overnight at a winery- any that are around an hour from DC with a nice hotel to stay in?

Or is December a crappy month to be visiting a winery and we should just stick to the city?
