I bought my dress on Etsy shortly after getting engaged simply because I found the right gown for the day. The dress was about an inch and a half too small around the waist, but I figured it was easy enough to lose the weight because I’m a fairly large woman.
9 months later and the dress still doesn’t zip up right! I gained 10 pounds due to stress earlier this year and have been working hard at losing it. However, I’ve been unsuccessful. It’s really a bummer. Last night I went to Target and bought some shapewear in hopes that it helps, but I don’t know that it will.
Anyone have advice or words of comfort? The tailor said it will take 2-3 weeks to tailor my dress, but that is before I realized that I can barely fit into it!

Hm. What kind of dress is it? Do you have pics? Could you add a corset back which would give you more room to let it out? Or maybe you could add a cute bolero or shawl?
I’d say talk with your tailor. Maybe she will have some suggestions. You’ve still got over a month before the big day so there’s time for more alterations.
And don’t go the crash diet route. You’ve got enough stress already. And they aren’t reliable or healthy.

I ordered my Bridesmaid or Best Man dress 2 sizes smaller in hopes that I’d lose weight in time but instead of losing I gained a few pounds from when I acutally ordered the dress! Seamstress said I needed an extra 3 inches in order to zip it closed. She was able to let the dress out which then made the chest area huge so she had to take it in around the bust. The dress overall fit but wasn’t perfect. Next time I’ll know better! I sugest ordering your true size. Much better to take a dress in then to take a dress out.
