I am completing my “bride guide” book from the venue and noticed that they ask if I will have a backup cake or sheet cake. I never thought I would need a backup cake. Are any of you doing this?

We’re not planning on this, but if you’re afraid of running out of cake/desserts then I’d say do it.
A sheet cake in the back is much cheaper than a large, ornate cake in the front. If you are looking to cut costs, you can order a small beautiful cake to display, and have a sheet cake in the back to feed the rest of the guests. The small cake plus the sheet cake are much cheaper than one large, decorated cake so you can save money.
Their wording is weird. It’s not so much a “back-up cake” as a “cake in the back.” Like if you have 300 guests but don’t want to pay for a huge towering wedding cake, you can get a small presentation cake for 80 guests and the rest can be a matching sheet cake that nobody sees. It’s a way of saving money.
Strange. We are having a big fancy cake for sure. That’s why I wonder why I would need a backup cake. I have heard people do a display cake and then sheet cake in the back – maybe that’s what they mean. It just sounded like… what are you going to do if the bakery does not show up with your big fancy cake? UGH! I never thought to worry about that!
Only get a sheet cake if your main cake doesn’t feed all of your guests.
We are having a 3 tiered cake but it will still only feed 80. The rest will be eating sheet cake. Cakes are really expensive! Our baker was recommended by our venue owner so I trust her to arrive with the cake on time. Lol!
Nope there is no way we’re doing this. There will be our wedding cake and his groom’s cake. Surely that would be enough for everyone. Not everyone eats wedding cake, almost every wedding I’ve been too (I dj weddings, so that is a lot) there was cake left over. Of course these people aren’t being skimpy on the serving. Then again it is the south so ppl aren’t used to receiving a tiny portion on oanything. Plus if they live by my mom’s rule of “I’d rather need it and not have it. Then not have it and need it” then that sorta solves that dilemma.
