backyard is the way to be! I’m likely biased since we got married in his parents back yard.  But it just went so smoothly! I walked from the house, to the ceremony site striaght into the reception! We did a first look cause it drove us mad to wait for dinner and dancing at other waitings for up to 3 hours once while bridal pictures were done! So we knew getting pictures out of the way was for us.  Also, your clothes hair and makeup look best sooner in the day! The tent was delivered and set up the day before and we made sure we bug bombed the yard the morning of and had some citronella candles diguised as wedding decor! None of the guests got lost cause there was no traveling from site to site.  I just all around suggest it!!our HUGE tent.  I mean HUGE! lol especially since we only had about 80 guests show up!When i say we walked straight to the reception, i mean it! We were being toasted within 5 minutes of being married! Amazing! You can see the house in the background here, so we all had immediate access to kitchen and bathroom facilities.we were married by his dad under and aple tree in the front yard! And we had fireworks and a bon fire and we didn’t need any permits or anything cause it was on their land! So if it’s what you want, do it! it worked out amazing for us!

We got married in my mom’s backyard! (It wasn’t as fancy as your FILs’ yard sounds, though.)  We couldn’t have a tent because her yard sloped too much, so our rain plan was to move into the house itself. We were able to have the ceremony and cocktail hour outside, then move inside for dinner and the rest of the party when it started raining.

We’ve actually just moved our location from the family ranch to my FIL’s backyard… Fingers crossed! I hired a day of coordinator just to keep everything in line and on track… Good luck!
