I wanted to share with everyone on here an experience i had at David’s Bridal with my wedding. I’m hoping that, by sharing this, it will help some brides on here…
Back in June, I was at your location in Mississauga, Ontario, to pick up the bridal dress I purchased and for my bridal group to look at dresses. We found a bridesmaid’s dress we liked and a dress for my junior bridesmaid. We placed the order that day. My sister was told to order a size 8 dress, and ended up ordering a size 10. The dresses came in in early July, though I had to phone the store to find out (no one contacted me or my girls to let us know). I wanted to book an appointment to try on the dresses and pick them up, and was reassured we had plenty of time to get alternations done. In the middle of July, I called to book an appointment for the end of July, and was unable to get an appointment prior to August 12th. Because I was getting married on September 2nd and alternations take four weeks, this was not going to work. We came to your store and tried on dresses on July 29th. Fortunately, the bridesmaids’ dresses were fine, (despite the fact that the consultant told my sister to order a size 8. The size 10 ended up fitting her perfectly). My junior bridesmaid’s dress, however, was another story. It was child’s size 8 dress that was ordered, and the dress was so small, the zipper couldn’t zip up at all! We were so flabbergasted, and the consultant insisted on getting the manager, Janice. We were so insulted and angered by her attitude, where she not-so-discreetly accused my niece of putting on substantial weight. This would be conceivable if the dress was snug, but the dress was just not the right size at all! Further, my sister would know if my niece grew, as her regular clothes would also now be too small! Because the dress we had was only available up to a size 8, we had to order a whole new dress. Janice kept pushing other dresses on us, and did little to truly help us out of our situation. We ended up having to purchase a second dress. Her original dress was lapis, and we ordered her a white bow. Now we had to change the dress to a white dress, and needed to change the bow to lapis. No one at your Mississauga location contacted any of the other stores to see if they had a lapis bow – I had to call all the ones within Canada and the Northern States myself. Because there was no lapis bows available anywhere else (and the store was not returning the white bow), I was told I should bring in the sash that went with my dress and use it for my niece and that I could purchase a new sash. Seriously? Take it off the brides’ dress! I really think the management team should have done what was necessary to make the situation right. We were told that we could purchase a piece of scrap fabric they had in back, that wasn’t even the right shade for $16.
After all that, my niece had to come back for alterations, and because we were forced to buy a larger dress, alterations were needed. We were then charged another $90 for alternations! We weren’t even made aware of this, as the pricing for alternations are tucked away in the changing rooms. My sister and I were SO upset, that we wanted to file a complaint but were concerned that this could pontentially jeoperdize my niece’s dress coming back on time and in proper form. Finally, on August 21st, the dress came back correctly done, but had cost as much as my dress by then. We were not provided any apologies by the management team, rather accusations and suggestions that it was OUR fault for the situation we were in. Had the measurements been done correctly by your staff at the beginning, the situation could have easily been mitgated. Fortunately, my sister had the foresight to see that the size she was being told to order for herself was incorrect, and took matters into her own hands by ordering herself a size 10 rather than a size 8.
I am extremely disappointed with the customer service provided on site. It seems you get so much business there, that you don’t care about the actual customers that shop at your store. I am highly recommending all my friends to never shop at your store, to avoid the same situation happening to them.
