I need opinions please!
My reception is at a small mansion built in 1904. Tables for dinner will be split between rooms… library, ballroom, music room and balcony. To help send guests in the right direction, we will be putting the room name as well as the table number on their escort cards, which got me to thinking that the table numbers/cards could have a CLUE theme (as in the game, and the theme will not be extended to other aspects of the decor/reception). For example:
In the Library
With Mrs. Peacock
For the actual table “numbers” I was thinking of mounting (on card stock in our wedding colors) and framing actual character cards from the game (pics of cards below)
Originally I was thinking of doing weapons instead of characters, but that was when I only remembered the candle stick, and before Wikipedia reminded me about the lead pipe, pistol and rope. Then I realized, not so much. But is any association with a murder-mystery game a no-go for a wedding??

That is so adorable. I love the idea! Your guests will talk about it forever, in a good way.

I love this idea! Very creative!

When I first saw the title of this thread I thought you were going to have guests figure out a riddle or some other “clue” to find their table.
Your idea sounds much better!

It’s your wedding…you can design it any way you want it to. I don’t think it’s weird at all if you’re into murder mystery. I think it’s a cool idea…very different from the norm.

It’s cute, but I’ve never played clue in my life so I don’t know the characters! I don’t think anyone would be taken aback and would probably find it to be a charming detail.

This is sooo cool! I really hope you do it! =D

I think it is a fabulous idea!

It’s cute! I personally wouldn’t do it because I feel like it wouldn’t match the romantic theme of my wedding, but if it goes with your theme then do it!

I think that would be super cute. It sounds like it will really go with your theme. However you did say that the CLUE theme wouldn’t extend to other parts of your reception which is GOOD I think! But having the obvious CLUE characters may make your wedding seem like it has an overall CLUE theme.

I LOOVVEE the idea. However, clue is my favourite game and I have a bazillion different versions of it.
Wish I had thought of this!

Thanks for all the feedback!
@Natalieh86: haha, that would be plain evil to make guests solve a clue before they can sit and eat.
@MrsDulce: I know, not overtly romantic, which I would say is the overall feel of the wedding/venue and a part of who we are. However, another facet to us as a couple is that we don’t take ourselves too seriously and we like to have fun. Plus, I just can’t help it, anytime I see someone’s name in front of a room, I always finish it off with a CLUE accusation in my head.
@PuntaCanaBride: Thanks! I only have one version, and admittedly don’t play often, but I’ve had a ton of fun on Ebay in the last hour looking at cards from all the different versions over the years.

I think if you like it, I think it’s cute and quirky. I mean if I went to a wedding and the name card said, “Ms Bluegrass Bee in the Conservatory” I’d immediately say (silently, so as not to offend), “with the candlestick bwahaha.” So this way, it lets your guests know you’re “in” on the room name joke.
If murder-mystery didn’t have its place in romance, it wouldn’t be offered as an option on certain expensive date dinner-trains 🙂 Although I do agree with an PP above that having the cards will lead to an overall thematic vibe.
