I had my makeup trial and am not happy with the results, so I need some advice. I have already paid the deposit for the makeup artist, and it would be way to late to find someone else, so I have to use her for my wedding day.
Here are some pictures from the trial (please be nice, I feel really unhappy and self-conscious about these):
What should I do? I felt like a drag queen. It was such a disappointment after paying $85. I know for sure that she made my brows too strong. I have very thin eyebrows, and while I agree they should be filled in a bit, this was way too much. I think the eyes are the main problem, but I really don’t know what would look better. We did black eyeliner because I usually wear black-brown, so I thought a step darker would be good for the wedding, but I think it is too much. I’m also not sure about the false eyelashes. Are they too long? The lip color is also not what I wanted, but don’t really know what would look good. I wanted something with a bit of a pop of color, but it looks to me like what she used has more brownish undertones (in the 2nd pic I think I had added some of my own lipstick that is a stronger pink).
Another thing that I’m really not sure about is the foundation. I did airbrush for the trial, which I am not sure if I should actually do for the wedding or not. My mom really thinks I shouldn’t. Just to put it all out there, my skin was really bad at the time of the trial, so she used a lot of foundation, espcially on my chin, to cover it up before applying the airbrush foundation. I’ve also read that airbrush can kind of sink into your lines and exaggerate them. Do you think that might be happening here? I can’t quite figure it out, but I just felt like it looked terrible.
She also wasn’t the best at discussing my options with me, and I couldn’t see anything she was doing until the end, so that was really disappointing. I was hoping for someone who would give me ideas and suggest things that would look good on me, but she just asked what I wanted and put the first thing I said on. I am generally a pretty basic, same makeup every day kind of girl, so this is way beyond my skill. Please help! What should I tell her to do differently next time? Or do you have any general ideas for what would look good on me?

I looked at the pictures before I read your post and I thought wow, great eye Brows and beautiful skin!
your eye make up just looks like black eye shadow though. Not a lot of shading/definition.

brigk: I’m a professional MUA. You are a beautiful girl, so you do NOT look horrible at all.
I agree with you, I prefer not to use airbrush because it can look heavy and lack light, plus it can settle into minor wrinkles, etc.
Try Mac’s angel for lips. It’s a much softer pink.
your eyebrows need to be a bit darker to match your hair and then combed through and lightened with a q tip to soften the line.
Do not use black around your pretty eyes. use a rich brown, and over the waterproof liner use cocoa shadow or even copper sheen to soften the line.

brigk: I think you look fine! I honestly don’t see what you’re talking about. The black liner is a touch heavy, but nothing outrageous and I would not have guessed you were even wearing fake lashes. And the brows look like nicely arched normal eyebrows. I think you must be used to a much more natural look so this is different for you. But for someone who hasn’t seen your every-day look, this looks perfectly fine. I would probably ask for lighter eyeliner (lighter in color and using a lighter hand) and if you prefer a different lipcolor, ask for that too. But otherwise, I don’t see anything that needs changing or is worth worrying over. You do not look like a drag queen, not even close!

Girl you look great!! I don’t know what you’re talking about!
I do agree the brows could be done a bit less, but I honestly didn’t notice at all that they were a little overdone until I read what you wrote. I think your eyes look great too. Maybe scale back the liner a bit, but as far as the lashes, I couldn’t even tell they were fake until you mentioned it. You look fabulous!
Keep in mind, a little extra oomph with the makeup for wedding photos doesn’t hurt! It will look lovely in pictures. Of course you don’t want to feel likr you have a caked on face all day so just discuss your specific concerns with your MUA. You know what to expect now, and you can work with her on what you want to change.

The only thing I would change is the eyeliner and maybe making your skin a bit more glowy with highlighter or a primer. Honestly you look so beautiful! The makeup is very flattering. I agree the eyebrows should be a tad darker, but I wouldn’t go too harsh.

If you are not use to wearing a full face, this can be a drastic transformation. But honestly, I think you are a very beautiful girl! I don’t think the makeup looks heavy at all or drag queenish- maybe if anything like PPs have mentioned, use something softer and lighter for the eyes. Probably safe in the brown family. Good luck and don’t feel down or disappointed, you really do look beautiful!

I really don’t see what you’re talking about here — everything looks beautiful! This is also WHY they have make up trials, so you can see what works and what doesn’t. I agree the eye could be much softer and that would look a lot better. If you don’t like the foundation then yeah it would be fine to go with a normal make up application. I think that might be cheaper too. That way it would be a lot easier to touch up too during the day.
I also think your eyebrows look great.

You look nice…the only thing that I notice is your face doesnt match your neck.

I think the brows look great. the eyeliner is heavy and makes your eyes look small. Also it looks like you have hooded eyes so yoi can’t see the eyeshadow. My advice would to be to go on YouTube and look up wedding makeup sticking to examples of others with hooded eyes. the lashes look great too. Best of luck!

Agreed with PPs. You look beautiful! I honestly couldn’t see what you could be unhappy about. Your look may be not what you are used to, and that means it should change a bit, but you so do not look drag queen at all!
You are a pretty girl needing little makeup, and you should be happy with the outcome. I would just work with her and tell her what you need changed, though I think you look great!

BalletParker: great advice!
I’m another pro chiming in…. I do professional photography and also MUAH. Brows should def be a bit darker to match hair. everything that BalletParker said, I would definitely go with a more coppery / maroon smokey eye. Not too strong. My new go too lip colour for brides is called “Stone” by Dose of Colours. I’ll post a pic from a photo shoot I shot, I used that lip colour on her. ( Granted it was a Buoudior shoot so a bit more dramatic makeup) I don’t have an image of it on a bride I just added lipsticks from this brand to my kit. It has amazing staying power. The colour is amazing! I think it would be great on you!

I just think the black liner is too dark/thick. You are beautiful! And if she can make your eyes brighter, as opposed to so dark/heavy, I think it will be great!

I think she went too heavy with the eyeliner on the bottom lid! Everything else looks great though
