This should perhaps go under bridesmaids, as it’s related to bridesmaids dresses, but just wanted to share an experience we had.
Basically, we are paying for the bridesmaids dresses, and while we were giving them some say, my mum and I wanted to check out the different designers, and their prices, prior to bringing my bridesmaids along to a) speed up the process (we discounted some for example as they didn’t have a wide enough range; others we thought the fabrics were cheap; etc) and b) find out the prices (we didn’t see the sense in them falling in love with a $450 dress when our budget was around the $350 mark).
The first shop we went to was AWFUL. She asked us what our budget was, and, given they didn’t have prices on the dresses, I wasn’t prepared to share that information, and simply said, politely ‘We’re not actually sure yet; we really need to get an idea of the prices first’. She decided, based on my response, that our budget must be like $60, and patronisingly suggested we try TK Maxx >-( She then showed us to where the dresses were; I pulled one out and asked what colour it was, and she said it was cornflower; I was convinced it was periwinkle, so, when she left (we were left to look alone) I pulled it out; I was right.
A good friend of mine actually went to the same shop, and had the exact same experience: she was told that the dresses were expensive and she might want to look elsewhere; she was also left to look alone, inc when it came to trying on a dress!!
I just do not get what is wrong with these people; from those two potential sales, they lost around $4k; her dress cost $1800 without accessories, and our Bridesmaid or Best Man dresses came to another $2500. It just seems insane to me, almost like they didn’t want to make any money; bizarre.
Anyone else had a bad experience they’d like to share?
