I am so sorry this happened to you, especially so close to your wedding!!  I think whoever broke in would have to be incredibly stupid to break into the same place twice, especially now that the cops know you were burglarized and I don’t know, maybe you can get their prints off the stuff that was taken!?  I hope you can put it behind you, best wishes to you!!

Ugh…this is just the pits. We got broken into once ourselves (luckily when we were out) and it took a long time for us to feel safe in our home again. I have no advice on that issue since there’s nothing you can really do other than lock your doors and windows or maybe get a dog or an alarm for some added security. It’s going to take time for you to feel comfortable there again.

As for the gifts….I’m sure your bridal party will understand! After hearing about your burglary and that you were home at the time, all they will care about is that the 2 of you are ok and were uninjured. PLEASE do not dwell on this! It sucks, shit happens…but you’re ok. Home invasions like this can turn out SO much worse than it did for you. Give your Fiance an extra-long hug tonight, have a little cry and bitch-fest, then take a deep breath, pull your chin up, and count your blessings! Everything else can be replaced.

I’m so sorry it’s happened though….I really do know how you feel. *hugs*

@keranos:  That sucks I’m sorry! I never had my place broken into but I have had my car, luggage and bike stolen. I don’t think they are going to come back.Just to be safe, make sure you lock your doors and windows. Do you have an alarm or would you consider getting one?

So sorry this happened to you!  Get a new door and reinforce the frame, install a good deadbolt lock. Can you have an alarm system installed?  Even if you can’t have one hardwired, they sell the alarms that just make noise when a window or door is broken and that would be enough to scare off the intruder & wake you up.

There really are some devious bastards out there. My uncle was just assaulted in Oldham by some thug who decided to come into their backyard, look through the back window to see the car keys on the counter, then he walked right in and grabbed the keys while my uncle sat at the computer in the same room….my uncle got up to stop him and was rewarded by being beaten with a bat. The guy got away with the keys and the car. My ucle got away with his life, and a 2-week stay in the hospital for a fractured skull, fractured eye socket, and broken ribs.
It really could have been a lot worse hon, so please take comfort in that! 🙂

@keranos:  If they were used I hope they were captured on CCTV while handing them over! A lot of places have cameras over their tills nowadays!

I am so sorry.  That must have been horrible to wake up to, and especially terrifying because you slept though the whole thing!!  You’re so lucky you didn’t wake up or they didn’t enter your bedroom.  It could have been so much worse!
