Try something fun (though it’s strange that she didn’t give you a list to choose from)! One of the bakers in our area has a ginger mango filling that is amaaaaazing!!! Myabe coconut or french vanilla?

Hmm, most of the bakeries I tasted cake at had a list of their flavors so I could choose which ones to taste.  Some traditional flavor combos are white/vanilla cake w/chocolate mousse, white/vanilla w/whipped cream and fresh berries, chocolate w/chocolate mousse & raspberries.  But if there is something out there that you have had before that was to die for, ask for it and see if the caterer can do it for you!

Oh man there are lots of cakes that bakers usually have











Just think of some flavors you like or (what I would probably do) ask her for a list of what she can do so you can see what your options are. 🙂

I was totally baffled about this too and we just tasted vanilla/chocolate/marble.  We’re going to do alternate layers of vanilla/chocolate and we just have to decide on filling or frosting or whatever.

Can you tell the cake was not a big deal to me? LoL ;op

White chocolate with any fruit filling, such as raspberry, or strawberry. I went to one wedding where the flavor was banana with vanilla cream filling.

Good question. I’m thinking of something basic, like chocolate or vanilla, and then maybe something more exotic, like coconut dolce de leche.

I personally don’t like too fancy of cake flavors or fillings. I love classic white cake with white buttercream! But since we are having an outdoor summer brunch reception, I thought a lemon filling would work well, so we’re doing that too.

Do they have a website where they list the flavors that they offer?

We went to a cake tasting last month and they had the following flavors:

  1. Orange Cake – Strawberry Grand Marnier Mousse
  2. Chocolate Cake – Bailey’s Chocolate Chunk Mousse
  3. Coffee Cake – Almond Roca Kahlua Mousse
  4. Vanilla Cake – Lemon Cream Cheese Mousse
  5. Chocolate Cake – Cookies and Cream Mousse
  6. Almond Poppyseed Cake – Amaretto Mousse
  7. Red Velvet Cake – Cream Cheese Mousse
  8. Macadamia Nut Cake – Pineapple Mousse

We are going again this weekend to try more flavors. I won’t have the flavor choices though, until Saturday.

@teaandtoast: haha, maybe!  We’re actually going through a super-small bakery with no website or anything, so the question totally threw me!  My mom wanted us to go super simple on the flavor/filling and I didn’t care, so I went along with it :o)

Hmmm, can you maybe ask for a list?  I wouldn’t have known what flavors to go for without seeing the list on our baker’s website.  The website gave me so many good ideas beyond the standard chocolate or vanilla — and told me what flavors they were used to making.  Apricot almond — yum!  Chocolate raspberry — divine! Lemon w/ vanilla, raspberry curd, or lavender filling — sign me up!

I agree that I would just ask for a list.  It will give you a good starting point for what they offer and you can go from there.  Some bakeries offer selections that I would never in a million years come up with myself.
