Hi Lorie!

Were in the same boat! You can do this yourself for sure and you can find lots of reviews at bestdestinationweddings.com just go to island weddings for the bahamas forum. It’s not easy to do online but you’ll find tons of people interested in helping. I’m here too! Matthew Sweeting is the highest reccomended officiant – I think his website is islandpreacha.com and wildflowers and floralarts are the two florists I hear the most about. I found wildflowers to be less expensive but another bride told me it was the other way around. Also DJ Jose can usually beat anyones price for anything if you contact him – I think his website is partybahamas. But you can find all of this on bestdestinationwedding. Can I ask where your villa is? I’ve been looking on the websites to rent houses and everything I like is like $10 for the day. Oh btw our wedding is 8.18.12 in Nassau and my future hubby lives there.

I don’t know if this will help, but I just wanted to be sure you knew that the Bahamas’ Independence Day is the 10th of July. They typically celebrate for at least a week, and the islands slow down or shut down considerably during this time. Just wanted you to be prepared so that you’re not trying to get things done too close to your wedding, as it can become even more difficult to get in touch with people there. Also, I think working directly with a hotel/resort is probably the easiest way to get things done, especially since it looks like you’re keeping it simple. I’d start out with where you want to stay and then going from there. Good Luck!

I’m looking at a house on vbro also! I think were going with #290397 The west side of the island is where most of the popular resorts are and the east is kinda away from a lot of the action which is good if you want a serene paradise feel. I’m not sure where that exact house is, i’ll look at it, but i’m sure it will be beautiful! They don’t have permits like we do in the states, you can go to any beach and get married. If it’s a small wedding that means you don’t want chairs, a tent, arch? If not it will be super easy! Other places were considering are Poop deck at sandyport because its $30 pp. There is one on the east side as well and the prices should be about the same. Also A Stones Throw Away which is a bed and breakfast. We also looked at getting married on blue lagoon and sandy toes island. They transport your party to the island by boat and do all the food drinks and dj. Our wedding is about 100 people so it was too costly for us. I can forward you the quote if your interested.

I havn’t heard of a woman officiant but i’m sure it’s possible. I read that matthew sweeting was one of the more expensive ones. There are a lot of reviews on officiants you can read on bestdestinationwedding. We were going with Jermaine Bethell for photography, he was the cheapest I could find on the island. His package was about $1000 and it included an aditional photo shoot before or after wedding, an album and he would do a photo slideshow for you. But I posted an ad on here looking for someone to do video and pictures for travel fees and I found one so we can get both video and pictures for about $1200 which is the flight for two and three nights in a hotel. Still a lot of money but a better deal considering we get video as well. Jermaine does video as well but he told us he can do one or the other. As far as the hair I’d say look at reviews on bestdestinationwedding as well. I love the bee more but there are more destination brides there. I have natural hair so I wouldn’t go to a stylist but there are ton’s of woman who did and they wrote about hair and makeup which you should find useful.

It’s not easier having an Fiance there! I wish but he dosn’t get the need to plan, he thinks we just pull something out of our closet and show up and pick a beach and it’s that easy. It is easier that he knows people that can do almost everything so we don’t have to go through the traditional expensive vendors that tourists go through. I live in Virginia, where are you?

I’m going to email you a link to my planning blog so you can see what else I have going on.

Glad you have so much done! Cabbage Beach is probably where they’re sending you. It’s one of the more beautiful beachs in Nassau. When I get my new laptop charger I’ll send you some pictures. It’s gorgeous white sand and of course blue waters but not crowded which is nice. Glad you found a lady to officiate. I’m excited about your small ceremony – It will be intimate and special!

So the Fish Fry is also called Arawak Cay. It’s a strip of restaruants and the later in the day the more crowded it becomes. I wouldn’t say it’s sketchy but I don’t really have that sense of fear, in the evenings my guy makes me stay close when we go there. I prefer Twin Brothers because of their pina coloda that tastes like ice cream- there’s two for some reason but they’re about the same. For food I have to ask Ra what it’s called but it’s a hole in the wall, I usually get red snapper. We have a friend that makes conch salad towards the end. You can walk up and see which you prefer and they ususally display the menu outside, there isn’t much difference in price but some feel more like a bar, some have bands playing which is great because you can dance to local music. You can also eat outside. My blog has some pictures but I don’t have an overall one. Oh and the restrooms are across the street in a building, they’re not that dirty. To the right (and behind) of the Fish Fry is the beach if you want to walk over there as well. I think you’ll like it, what you might like better is a newer place that over looks the water, it’s downtown going towards east and I can’t remember the name but I’ll ask. Ra was going to propose there, the decor is very very nice and they ususally have a band on the weekend evening if there is enough people.

Your going to be traveling far from Colorado! So since we spoke last were looking at a restaruant on love beach and these two houses.

I’m leaning towards Sunnydale (which is east like your house) because the beach is right there, and the other we would have to drive 5 minutes to.
