So we had met with this baker a month ago and fell in love with her cakes, designs, and most importantly, price! We didn’t book her immediatly because we needed to get the money for the down payment. She said that was fine and that she would let us know if anybody else was interested in our date before she booked with them to give us a chance since we met with her first. Well, that didn’t happen. We finally have all the money (and the time… ugh… school) and we e-mailed her to find out what we needed to do, assuming our date was still available since she hadn’t said anything to us… now we are without a baker and can’t afford a $400 cake anywhere else… I am SO LOST and frustrated as hell. 3 months before the wedding and we are back at square one with our baker…. Lucky for us I took lots of pictures of her designs and I plan on taking those suckers elsewhere!

Awww, that sucks! Bad timing! That happened to us with our original choice for photographer. Hopefully you can find someone else to create a great cake for similar pricing! Best of luck!

oh, we just might have… this place looks like its flavors are just to die for!!1

I’m confused…most bakers will take more than one wedding order for one date, since the cakes are usually done before the actual day of the wedding. She won’t do more than one cake? Sorry this happened. Good luck with the other place!

@missapis:ditto. most bakers do multiple weddings on 1 day.

Yeah, I know my baker did multiple weddings a day – otherwise, how would they make any money? It sounds like this was an independent baker that doesn’t have the same resources – hence the price cut. What may have happened was somebody asked for your date that wanted a more expensive cake, and since they only can do a limited #, they took that person without calling you. Or, they simply forgot because they run their own business and are too busy!

@kitzy: I wonder if she’s just one person and is doing it independantly. Sounds like it might be, because the price is low.

@mwitter80 I agree, our baker is a friend of my brothers who works out of her house. Sometimes she will only do one event per weekend if the order is large.

Or, despite the fact that she said she would call if anyone else was interested, as a whole month had gone by without hearing back from you, she may have thought you had changed your mind.
It just sounds like poor communication from both parties.
Good luck on finding a new baker.

Bummer 🙁 You’ll find someone! Those SugarandFrosting cakes are awesome!!! How pricey are they?

I calculated about 525 for a 150 person wedding, based on her 3.50 a slice price. Apparently she charges extra for fondant, 1 dollar extra per slice. Not bad! Not bad at all! Are you going with them?

@mwitter80: our baker is just one lady doing it out of her house and she does mutlitple cakes per weekend. i guess it just depends on the baker.
@Mrs Hedgehog: sorry this happened to you! we had the same situation happen with a band we wanted so i feel your pain. it will all work out!

That sucks! I’m guessing she’s an out of the house baker, too, as all shops take more than one wedding a day.
What kind of cake were you doing? If it was fondant and logistically you have storage space for it, you may be able to have the cake delivered the day prior. I’ve had some brides do that – bring a cake up from their hometown or whatever, and it’s always fine.
