We are getting married in San Diego this August but we are not from the area have any of you got your wedding cakes from bakeries in the San Diego area and if so do you have any recommendations? We are having a small wedding of only 30 guests so don’t need a big cake and would like to spend less than $200. We just want a simple tiered cake no fancy design or anything. If you have photos of your cakes or could share how much your cake was that would really help! Don’t want to waist time going to tasting if we can’t afford the cake !

Have you tried searching on yelp. Sorry if that’s not helpful.

I lived in San Diego for 5 years and I LOVE this place…that being said, I’ve only gone for desserts/drinks, so i’m not sure how their wedding cakes are…but their dessert cakes are phenomenal.
Go check them out, you can pop in any night and try some desserts. If I still lived in SD, I’d join you! lol

VG’s for sure! They’re a local treasure and for good reason. My dad’s best friend got married over 10 years ago and to this day the part that they reminisce about the most is how good the cake was. My own best friend just got married – also a VG’s cake, which we also jokingly refer to as having been the best part of the day.
http://www.vgbakery.com/wedding-cakes/ (ETA: according to their website pricing, you should be good to go for a cake for 30 people for under $200)
Here’s them on Yelp if you want to check them out there: http://www.yelp.com/biz/vg-donuts-and-bakery-cardiff
