My fi & I are considering Bali for our Honeymoon. We’ve both always wanted to go and looking into our budget, we just may be able to do it. Anyway, we are looking at staying at a beach resort in Nusa Dua (for 5 nights) and then a resort in Ubud (for 4 nights). Have any bees been to Bali? Do you have any suggestions on where we should stay, what we should do?

@OhBeeHive84: We went to Bali in for our honeymoon for the month of July! We got married on 6/26. It was such an amazing adventure. We stayed at the Samaya in Seminyak for the first four nights, and then we had no accommodations booked after that. We stayed at the Temple Lodge on the Bhukit Peninsula (I think that is the same region as Nusa Dua??) and I highly highly recommend it. As for Ubud, if you can swing the Four Seasons I would stay there in a hot second, or any of the hotels by this group: http://www.alamindahbali.com/. We stayed at Alam Gili on Gili Trawangen and it was awesome (and $50 a night). Also, do not miss Cinta Grill in Ubud, I’d go back to Bali just for the ribs here. If you and/or your Fiance surf, Bali is a huge surfing destination. The shopping is amazing! Bring $$ for silk sarongs, jewelry, artwork, etc. PM me if you have any questions 🙂

We are going in April for two weeks and only just started looking at things to do. One thing I have read about is some great cooking classes!

My fam is from Indonesia and I’ve been to Bali quite a few times. As a kid, my favorite things were going to the monkey park, bat caves, and watching the Ramayana. Actually I still love the monkey park 🙂 And the beach is of course amazing, and so is the seafood. Unfortunately I don’t have specific names of places, since it’s been a while…

@OhBeeHive84: We are staying at http://www.balishangrila.net/
My parents gave us two weeks of their timeshare so we didnt really have much of a choice of the exact location, but it certainly looks great! We will probably have to rent a car for some outings we may want to to do.

We just got back from a week-long stay in Bali in September. We split time between Ubud and Seminyak at the coast.
In Ubud we stayed at Tegal Sari – highly recommended. It’s about a 15 minute walk to the center of Ubud where the Palace and the market are, but it’s an interesting walk that passes the Monkey Forest and lots of cute shops and restaurants. The ‘duplex’ room is amazing with its private covered outdoor jucuzzi tub and two terraces (It books up fast though). Tegal Sari also had a great cooking class at their restaurant. It was 9am-2pm and included making 5 or 6 different dishes as a group which you then eat for lunch. We had the best Nasi Goreng of the trip here. Our class had two instructors and five students. The whole thing cost ~$30. Since Tegal Sari was full the last night we were in Ubud, we stayed at Alam Shanti, which is part of the group that JenniB mentions. It was a little out of the way, but I think they provide transportation to the center of town. Our room had two private balconies. We also did a bike tour with Bali Eco-tours through small villages and the rice fields. That started with breakfast overlooking a lake near a volcano and ended with an amazing lunch. The bike ride is all downhill – great experience. If you like pork, try the babi guling (suckling pig) at Ibu Oka which they say is the best in Bali (and a Ubud specialty). I really liked Ubud and wished we spent more than four days there.
Seminyak was nice in its own way – amazing dinner at ‘Breeze’ at The Samaya. We stayed at Uma Sapna, which has amazing affordable villas (~$130/night for the smallest). It’s not right on the beach, but it isn’t too far of a walk, and taxis are cheap (and *everywhere*). We had the bbq dinner on the beach in Jimbaran (worth it!), but I think in general we had all our beach experience on the first half of our trip in the Maldives, so we didn’t do that in Bali. I’ve heard it’s great too though.
If you’re going all the way to Bali, you’ll probably stop somewhere like Singapore on the way. We had a couple layovers there, so I’ve got some tips for things to do if you want. PM me if you have more questions!
