I’m going to Tahiti and Moorea for my honeymoon! I heard great things and its a shorter flight than Bali and Thailand.

@BlondeBride090211:My Fiance and I are doing Bali too! We were thinking about Bora Bora but.. well.. it does seem a bit boring to us. We wanted somewhere neither of us have been before (which pretty much eliminates africa, and europe.. and some of asia).. and wanted a place with a lot of history and culture.. and seeing that we are on the west coast now.. somewhere that we might not have thought about if we were still on the east coast. Bali seemed perfect to us. Our tickets are going to be about 3000$ though which is a major downfall. .but for us it is still the perfect destination. I picture us trecking in Ubud in the day.. our hotel surrounded by crazy monkeys.. and Nusa Dua by the beach.. (we also plan on splitting our time between both) but the island is small and can be driven coast to coast in a day so we will definately be making day trips to the temples and such. We will be staying at the Royal Pita Maha in Ubud and not sure where in Nusa Dua yet.

Thailand is absolutely beautiful (and I’d venture to bet, less expensive than Bali, Bora Bora, etc).

If you do Thailand, definitely consider Phuket and/or the Phi Phi Islands.

I voted for Thailand becuase thats where we’re going! Great exchange rate, food, adventure, culture…what more could you ask for? We are also doing Bangkok and Koh Samui, but adding in Chiang Mai for a few days as well.

Both Thailand and Bali are great, and about the same when it comes to money matters. If you want a more peaceful honeymoon then I would recommend Bali. Nusa Dua is great for watersports and is quiter than Kuta, but the hotels can be slightly more expensive there. Ubud is very laid back and peaceful, but the beach wont be on your doorstep if you stay there. I love Bangkok for the night life and food, but it definitely doesnt have the same relaxed atmosphere as Bali. I havent been to Koh Samui, but I have been to Chiang Mai and that is really lovely, with lots of sightseeing opportunities, etc. Whatever place you choose I think you will have a great time!

we just came back from our honeymoon which was a year long and included both bali and thailand. we skipped Tahiti and friends for the same reason you were thinking.

If you want Bali, skip Nusa DUa – its all just western hotels. go to the Gili Islands off the coast on Lombok, next door. They are only a 1/5 hour speedboat ride from the kuta area. TOTALLY WORTH IT. gorgeous water and beaches, far better than those on bali. Gili Air has lots of nice resorts, Gili T has the party scene, Gili Meno is awesomely empty and quiet but rustic. Ubud is full of indonesian culture – amazinging beautiful.

If you want Thailand, Samui has lots of nice resorts and GORGEOUS beaches and water. The food is amazing. Bangkok has awesome temples.

You feel like you are on your honeymoon more in Bali, but Thailand is a must-do. Tough choice! I might go with Bali….

I’ve been to Bali and Phuket in Thailand, and I have to say that I enjoyed Bali much more. We stayed at Seminyak which has a great beach and awesome stylish restuarants and bars for entertainment in the evening. The sunsets were amazing! We stayed at the Samaya which is probaby one of my favourite hotels I’ve ever stayed in – I highly recommend it (private pool, butler – wow!) http://www.thesamayabali.com/

We also spent a couple of days in Ubud where we stayed in a traditional guest house. It was a great experience but for honeymoon I would suggest spending more money and staying in one of the amazing spa resorts in Ubud. You can go for beautiful walks in amazing scenery such and jungles and rice fields, and yes, there is a whole monkey forest full of cheeky monkies  – sooo cute!

In Phuket we stayed at the Vijitt http://www.vijittresort.com/, it was a nice resort but in hindsight I should have done more research into the area we stayed in – there was a large ex pat community of middle aged and older Western men, hanging out with teenage Thai girls – we felt a bit out of place and wrong there. We did spend a night in Patong which was party central and very fun, although I thought it would be a bit full-on for a honeymoon.

I am seriously considering returning to Bali for my honeymoon, and also spending a few days on Lombok and the GiliIslands as Phishgirl suggested above so that its something different. I’m also thinking about Tahiti and Vietnam… Decisions, decisions! Good luck with your choice!
