amyharper I’m not as small as you, but I am 5’2, and I worried about exactly the same issue, I thought that I would just be swamped in this style of dress, but I was heart set on a ballgown so I went ahead an tried on tons. Some of them were too much and others just didn’t sit in the right places on my frame, but I eventually found a perfect dress and got it there and then!

I can’t post my pics at the moment but you can see it in one of my older posts:

I blubbered like a baby! I tried dresses on all day and this was the last one. I just looked in the mirror and came over with emotion! which pretty much made me realise I should get that one!

You should definately try on lots of dresses, don’t be swayed if they don’t look right, some of them are too much, but if you persist you’ll find one you love!

Hey… I’m not quite as short (5’3″), but maybe try the Casablanca 2052. It is what I’d consider semi-ballgown. It’s poofy, but not overwhelming. it’s weight when you have it on is VERY light. It might be a nice compromise for you.

I’m a little over 5’3″, though I have anything but a petite build. My chest diameter without boobs is 36″ around. That being said, I think the drop waist on my ball gown really helped keep me from being swallowed alive by the poofy skirt (seen below with a mega wide hoop skirt). The dress gave the illusion of a shrunken waist and hid my pear-shapped lower half. I say keep trying them on, and go for it!!!

Edit: You mentioned the dress being difficult to maneuver in. Mine’s was impossible to move around in until I added the hoop skirt. I highly, highly recommend a nice hoop skirt. You might have to pin a few of the hoops together to shorten it (we had to pin two of my hoops together to shorten it). *But* I was able to walk around with the dress on just fine once the skirt was in place. It’s a miracle what those do. Good luck!

Hey! I am 90lbs and 4.11″ Dress shopping has been a nightmare for me! Being so tiny And petite made it really hard for me to find the right dress. i tried on all different styles to see which looked best on me! After 1 year of searching i found Maggie Sottero Victoriana Which is a princess Corset ball gown (never thought this would be the dress for me). It gave my body a shape like no other. Thank god! I fell to the floor when i finally found it lol.   I Love my dress! It was very stressful. Do yourself a favor and try on diffrent syles, you never know what you might find! good luck. Either way im sure you will make a beautiful brideLaughing
