Hi everyone! Okay so I have a question:
In your opinion, would it look strange if the bride was wearing more of a fuller skirted, ball gown style dress while the groom and groomsmen are in dark grey suits? I toyed with the idea of FH wearing a tux and the rest of the guys in suits but I thought that might look even more off putting.
The reason I’m asking is that I’m having my gown custom made and we were originally going for a more casual style but when I tried on my dress which was initially more of a column dress, I discovered that I loved it with a bit more volume. The ladies are also in more casual dresses and I’m not wearinga veil (a dainty flower crown for me!) and I figured the mismatchy-ness of it all might flow. It seems the rest of our wedding has lent itself to elegant mismatching anyway.
Anyway, let me know what you ladies think! Thanks! <3

I’m doing a fancy schmancy dress and my groom will be in a tan suit. It will look freaking fabulous! You are going to look AWESOME and so will your Darling Husband.

@FrostedLace: I looked on line at found this image http://www.mytuxedocatalog.com/wp-content/uploads/Tux_or_Suit2.jpg (hope the link works) me me personally i like the suit better, the tux reminds me of something a little boy would wear, or Winston Churchill…lol sorry..My Fiance wanted to stand out a little so he wants either a darker or lighter suit then his party.

It depends on the fabric I think. Satin with more casual suits might look off, but a softer flowier fabric would look fine.

I think the bride can be more formal. I went into my engagement and wedding dress shopping thinking I wanted a simple, ivory dress with little to no train. I did not feel bridal in them at all. I wanted my groom and groomsmen to wear suits since it was going to be outside near the water and bridesmaids in short dresses. I ended up with a very formal, bright white, bridal gown. The guys wore tuxedos because my husband really wanted too. I still wanted suits. I think suites like navy, tan and gray look great with formal bridal gowns!

The wedding I was at this weekend, the bride had a huge princess ballgown and the groom wore a light grey suit. I thought it looked fine!

I think you should wear whatever you want to. You are the bride you should wear what makes you feel beautiful!

No, not at all! I don’t see anything wrong with a ballgown next to a suit. 🙂

@FrostedLace: What time are your ceremony and reception?

I wore a huge ball gown and my Darling Husband wore a black suit. His groomsmen wore black shirts and black pants while my girls wore floor length black gowns… It looked fine!

I’m wearing a ball gown, my soon to be hubby will be in a suit, and his groomsmen will just be in black pants, white button up shirts, and tie.

Oh wow, you guys are awesome, totally allayed my fears.
@HappilyEverAfter54: Your photos are beautiful! Thanks so much for visual evidence of awesomeness. 🙂
@ Duncan: My wedding is at 11am outside in a pretty courtyard under some crepe myrtles.
This is great because my dress is super flowy and light with a net overlay… I don’t think I could love it more than I do.
Thank you so much, everyone!

I think it will look great!

My dress was very formal and my husband didn’t even wear a suit. He wouldn’t have been comfortable. He wore the below, black pants white shirt and tie, his groomsmen wore the same except they had black shirts. They looked great.

To reiterate what others have already said, the ballgown with suits will be fine. 🙂
I wore an A-line dress, had flowers instead of a veil also and my hubby wore a black suit. So it worked for us.
