(Closed) Ban on Divorce…what do you think?

@worchester This is off topic, but I always find your posts on faith enjoyable and enlightening! (I’m especially remembering one I read on premarital sex a while back).  I think you’re going to make a very good clergy member!  🙂

What an interesting article! I agree with the other posters who have mentioned how it was such a clever way of calling out the inherent hipocrisy associated wth banning gay marriage on the grounds of preserving the sanctitiy of marriage. I agree that banning divorice is not the option, but the article makes a clever point regardless.

I would like to point out something else. Not sure how it is in the US (I imagine very similar), but in Canada many parents simply get a legal separation rather than a full-on divorce. Legal divorce (which allows you to marry again) is VERY expensive. My Future Mother-In-Law is legally separated from my Future Father-In-Law, becuase they simply did not have the money to divorce.

Would an outright ban on divorce stop people from separating? Probably not, unless legislation was in place to ban this as well. But even if there was – if two people really aren’t making it work, then they would probably just live apart, “divorced” for all intense purposes except legally.
