Has anyone done a band/DJ combination? Did it work out well? Or has anyone seen this done? I’m considering this to make sure that everyone is happy with the music selection–our parents really want a band but we want to make sure we can have some fun contemporary music as well. Thanks!

I think it is a great idea, and it might prove to save you some $$$!!!

I was at a wedding where they did both. Bride loved calypso, groom didn’t want to hear it all night so they compromised and had a calypso band with a dj. It was awesome! From what I recall, they didn’t save much when you combine the two and the fact that whether they are playing or not during the entire time, the musicians are unable to work another event. They had the dj to fill in during the band breaks. Great music!

i’ve been to a few. there’s a band in the area that does klezmer type music, so a lot of jewish weddings start out with the hora and other fun songs like that, then they’ll switch to the dj later on in the night. i think it’s fun and different.

Yes both is a great idea! But, to be honest, you could prob get away with having an Ipod for the “DJ” part of the wedding, unless you wanted him/her to serve as an Mcee also.
