@dewingedpixie:  that really sucks!!! but at least you got a phone call!

I was away at college and tried to use my card, only to have it declined (and I KNOW I had money in the bank!). I called my bank, come to find out they closed my card because I had shopped at a grocery store that was compromised. Rather than call or email me, the card was closed and a new one was just sent in the mail. I was away at college, and therefore wouldn’t get my mail until I went home! If I had known that happened, my mom could’ve forwarded the card to me. Grrrr so annoying! Fortunately my Fiance (bf at the time) was nice enough to purchase the things I needed until I could get my card.

@dewingedpixie:  the automated calls are very common for something like a vendor being hacked.  Usually when that happens, I just get a letter with a new card.  I only get human calls when there haa been suspicious activity (this was once when my wallet was stolen and I had no idea, so thank god for their calls!)

It’s all for your own protection.

I actually was getting fed up with BofA and about to switch when my wallet got stolen. The way they handled the whole thing made me reconsider and stay with them.

It’s funny you mention this, because a coworker just said that she had to go close her BoA accounts because BoA is changing to a new bank or something and they have new limits on their accounts.

Umm, it would be a lot worse if they didn’t cancel the card and someone took all your money.

This happened to my mom. . However I have BoA accounts and I didn’t get a new card. ..kindda scary! ! Also, she’s had nothing but problems with them.  I have retirement accounts,  savings, checking,  even had a mortgage with them with no problems.  They are pretty hit or miss but I hear a lot of bad things.  How did you get a coolhello kitty card?

I have BofA accounts and now that Darling Husband and I are married I was allowed into the USAA family. Holy hotdogs I love USAA. Like, I actually ramble at length about how much I love USAA. I didn’t think loving a financial institution was even a thing that was possible, but apparently it is!

An automated phone call is pretty standard I think.  We got one for DH’s CC and for my debit card (different banks) in the past.

I like using more than one bank for things just like this!

Ugh, I hate BoA. I moved my money to local banks years ago and will never go back. Getting a real person when you call customer service is ah-mazing.

@dewingedpixie:  I totally get hating a bank though!  We had horrible service at one and pulled most stuff, minus my first CC account and a free bank account that I have about $5 in.

Some places just have horrible customer service.  Yell
