I’ve been using Bare Essentials for about 3 1/2 years and I love it! Are you doing the swirl and tap before you apply to your face? You don’t want too much makeup on the brush or it can get a little uneven on your face. Less is definitely more with this stuff.

I have extremely dry skin too, and I find that sometimes I can’t put Bare Minerals on some parts of my face (like around my eyes) because it gets too dry.

And I don’t want to tell you the opposite of what the department store girl said, but really you should put on primer BEFORE moisturizer, like right after you shower when skin is still moist.  Then put on moisturizer, then a good cream on the driest parts of your skin.  Give that a minute or two to sink in, then apply your bare minerals foundation.  There’s some great videos on YouTube of how to apply it that helped me a lot.

Also, the foundation + mineral veil tends to make my skin extra dry, so you might want to try not wearing both together.

Primer can’t really go on before the moisturizer because it has silicone in it.  The silicone is what is helpful in applying mineral powder.

I agree with the PP about not using the mineral veil right away.  Try using just the primer and foundation then use the mineral veil throughout the day to combate shine.

Also, I don’t let the primer “dry” too long.  Just long enough not to be tacky.

Did you buy BE’s primer?  Smashbox’s works much better.  That might be the trick.

tip: Monistat Chaffing Gel is the SAME ingredients as Smashbox, looks the same on, feels the same, works just as great, and cost 7 bucks at the drugstore for about 3 times as much product as the Smashbox! ๐Ÿ˜‰

sometimes a light exfoliator in the shower will help end the cakey/patchy look by removing the dead skin so that it has a smoother surface to cling to. Be careful about which one you use tho as it can make matters worse.

Also, try to do a few light coats instead of one heavy one if you need a lot of coverage.

@Oneeleven lol… “girl scouts honor” it’s the same stuff ๐Ÿ˜‰

@ninerz113 haha.. yea It was weird at first, but after trying it (say the tip on the “Ace Your Face” blog post) I love it!

I actually mix my primer with my foundation before application… goes on smooth, lasts ALL day, and it’s 1 less step. lol… I also went back to liquid foundation after being a “bare” girl for YEARS, b/c I just couldn’t get the lasting coverage I wanted… although I still like bare, The drugstore/smashbox I use with the “primer” feels just about as good.. not heavy and not cakey.

amnystik is right, it’s the same formula. I still have plenty of smashbox left though, so i haven’t made the switch!

@skyeatnight: i have moderately dry skin as well. at night i put on a heavier moisturizer and then in the morning before i put on my makeup i use a lighter facial moisturizer. i wait about a minute and go straight into the swirl-tap-buff action starting under my right eye and move clockwise (at least in the mirror it’s clockwise!) around my face, re-swirl & tapping as needed. i only use primer when i need to have a “face” on, not on a daily basis. is your face generally clear? because you shouldn’t need to apply a lot. same goes with the primer. use a dime size bit of it on any trouble areas – don’t slather it on or try to use it like foundation all over your face. and your dept store girl has the right order – moisturize THEN prime. Oneeleven is correct about the silicone.

I’ve been using Bare Escentuals for about 4 years now and I’ve never used it with Primer. Just the BE Skin Rever-upper then I go straight to the foundation and finish with Mineral Veil. It seems to last all day for me without the primer.
