I’m getting married in a large and in charge barn next year and was going to try and handle all the decorations myself, but am getting worried about some of my decor ideas, since the ceilings are SO high and my main ideas are draped fabric from the ceilings down to the ground, and/or clustered paper lanterns (both an effort to try and create a connection between the high ceilings and the guests, and to fill some of the open space). Are there companies who do this, or should I just try to hire some random person to execute what I already know I want to do. Where can I find such a person? I can even handle getting the fabric and lanterns myself, or if the person/company I hire has fabric/lanterns for rent, and doesn’t charge an arm and a leg for it, that’s fine too… thoughts?

There are companies and individulas that you can hire to do this for you. Sometimes the venue can give you suggestions.

I don’t even know where to start – what kind of companies do this?

The fabric draping is harder to pull off so that it looks good than lanterns – they are time-intensive, but pretty much always look good. Either you can grab a few friends/FS and do them yourself (give it a good 4-5 hours just to be safe) with some fishing line and a ladder, or hire local help to do it for you (ask the venue if they know anyone).
Saveoncrafts is a great site for everything and anything you might need. What barn are you getting married in? I just had a barn wedding, would be happy to share some ideas for your specific space, if you want to PM me.
