Hello everyone! This is my first post on here but I LOVE this site!
Soooo….I’m having my wedding this October in a barn and I’m sure you all have seen pictures of the barn doors being opened and draped with fabric. That’s the look I want, but am not sure what to use as drapes! I don’t know where to find fabric that long. Anyone have any ideas on what to do or maybe things you did at your own wedding to get this look? I would really appreciate any help!
Thank you so much!

Something like inexpensive muslin from your local fabric store might be your best bet. Or, maybe consider renting draping fabric from a party-supply or wedding decor store?

@stephie22 have you considered using burlap? Makes a great rustic touch to barn weddings. you can purchase rolls of it cheap on the internet. just google it. btw, i’m from pittsburgh too!

@jmaze: Hello fellow Pittsburgher! I had thought about burlap but I’m using that as table runners and to cover some of the smaller tables inside the barn =) I want something elegant and flowy lol Thank you so much for your reply!

I’d go to the fabric store and have fabric cut to the length you need!

I agree your best bet would be to go to fabric store! If you are unfamiliar with different types of fabrics simply ask and explain what you are using it for and what feel/look you want to achieve. I think a thin cotton or muslin would be something to consider. Some sewing may be involved if you have to put peices together to make desired width of “curtains” or if you choose to hem edges.

This may be a stretch but if you or ever in New York or LA there are big fabric districts there with super cheap fabric.

Not to be a creep but I looked up fabric stores in Pittsburg and seen you have a Joann’s there. They are super amazing, or at least the store in my area is with special orders and with coupons. I’ve never been a coupon person before but I special ordered an $80 bolt (20yrds *which amount may vary with different fabrics) of burlap for $40 using coupon which not sure if you have to sign up for, but can print off from their website or grab flyer in store. I have yet to pay full price for any of my wedding stuff and have literally saved hundreds! I’ve also heard they have some sort of wedding discount and maybe its on bulk ordering or something but have not asked yet to see if that is true or what it applies to.

I’d go to the fabric store and look at the textures. See what you like. I’d look at burlap, muslin, a fine weeve tulle, and organza. Once you decide on textures/colors I’d google… “wholesale organza bolt” or whatever. OR you may get a deal, if you can use a JOann’s coupon.
