Wedding will be at a historic farm property. I’m trying to think of creative ideas for place cards that double as a favor. What do you think would go over best?
Option 1: Jar of honey with a tag for names & table number. Centerpiece would be a vase of farmers market flowers, which guests could take home as well.

Option 2: Pot of herbs with little garden sticks for names & table number. Of course, this would leave only one favor per table. But we could have additional pots as a centerpiece for each table, that way more/all guests would be able to take them as a favor.

Option 3: Peach with a leaf-shaped tag for names & table number. (The picture shows apples but I would do the same thing with peaches). My wedding is during peach season! Do you think guests would appreciate a peach grown by a local farm? Centerpiece would be a whole bushel of peaches!

What else would work with the barn/farm setting?

@beeconomist: A jar of honey seems best…A pot of herbs would die in my home and a peach could go bad or make a mess if I don’t eat it at the reception. Maybe offer honey candy or rock candy that can be taken home?

@beeconomist: I was torn between the little pots of herbs and the honey, but I ended up going with honey because a) it’s delicious, and b) I’d more than likely kill the herbs later and be sad 🙁 Total brown thumb! Haha

@beeconomist: Option 2 wouldn’t really be a “favor” it would just be a centerpiece – bc you can’t just give one person something.
But keep in mind, favors aren’t “required”. So you can always skip it. But I love the honey idea! This might be pricey though?

@beeconomist: honey would be best! Peaches would get bruised and herbs may die.

@beeconomist: I had a barn wedding too, they create a lovely atmosphere. Can I ask what’s your general theme for the day and colours?

I love love love the honey jar idea. It is just precious. Also logistically speaking will be the easiest to put together well ahead of time and looks neat.

I voted for honey but I wouldnt mind herbs bc I love to cook and use fresh herbs. However, for those that dont cook much and dont like plants I imagine they would just leave them and/or they take them home and they die.

I voted for a jar of honey, because just about anyone would use it (or could easily to give it to someone else, you know?). Herbs are tricky because you’d need to either buy them RIGHT before your wedding, or take care of them during the time leading up until your wedding, and that could be added stress. Plus, transporting plants always gets messy – I always manage to spill dirt in my car. It would be a lot easier for you to transport jars of honey to your venue 🙂
I do think the idea of having pots of herbs, or a basket of peaches, as a centerpiece would be SO pretty, though – could you still do that, and give the herbs or peaches to your vendors and and everyone who helps set up/clean up as a thank-you? How many guests are you expecting (or how many tables are you planning on)?

Jar of honey, I kill all living things that can’y physcially get in my face and remind me to feed them and with allergies the way they are, herbs might get chucked.

Pot of herbs, then jar of honey. I wouldn’t want a peach.

@beeconomist: I personally love locally farmed honey over the standard store bought stuff. The herbs would be cute but I would murder them with my lack of green thumb. The peach would be pretty but I would probably leave it on the table rather than take it home.

Thanks so much for your comments! Glad I asked because I didn’t think about how the favor would hold up after the wedding! I agree that the honey is best because the other ideas are more delicate and short-lived.
CatyLady – So glad to hear your barn wedding turned out to be lovely 🙂 We had considered the theme “Meant to Bee,” so another reason honey works best! We haven’t really thought about “colors” aside from the fact that my favorite color is yellow and BM dresses will be navy!
