I used a NEXCARE one and it worked great, no issues. I temped vaginally for accuracy.

MsPlucky :  I just bought a regular digital thermometer accurate to .1 degree – everything I read said I didn’t actually need anything special..mine seems to be consistent, it’s just a drugstore brand

I bought a cheapo BBT off Amazon and it works fine. I would say that cheaper may be better because then if it does break, you won’t feel so badly about it.

Or if you really want to go crazy, you could buy the YONO (disclaimer: I know nothing about it other than I considered it before I got pregnant).

one thing I noticed is that where you temp is more important than what you temp with.

orally, my baby thermometer will vary by up to 0.4 degrees if I just move it around a bit.

vaginally it rarely varies by over 0.04 degrees

Mine is generation guard brand. It was like $12 on amazon. I like it just fine, and it seems to be consistent.  The only thing I don’t like about it is that it isn’t backlit so when I take my temp at 6 am, I have to turn on my bedside lamp and that sometimes wakes DH.

lindsayE :  mine isn’t backlit either! Annoying!  I turn on my phone (where I input the number anyway, tbh) and face it to the thermometer.

I just started temping yesterday. I got this one from Amazon https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MFGHHK2/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 IDK about it’s accuracy, but my temps were only .03 degrees apart. It was relatively inexpensive and it reads pretty quickly. I was worried when I read that some take several minutes! So far I’m taking mine orally.

Edit: No backlighting on this one either, but I think if you turn it back on it reads the last temp taken so you could easily wait until you get up and in the light to see it later.
