Helloooo my fellow Bay Area Bees! So, here’s the deal: I moved here a little over a month ago and I’m starting to get crazy lonely. All of the people we’ve met so far are through SO’s work, and they’re mostly girlfriendless guys I have zero in common with. I miss female company! I thought once I started working, I’d meet people… but I’m freelancing from home :/ Unless there’s a bunch of friendly ladies in my closet I don’t know about (in which case, SO has a LOT of explaining to do), working from home just isn’t improving my social situation any.
So I thought, maybe it’s time to have a Bay Area Bee Meetup! Or if any of you are in the San Jose area and want a new friend for shopping dates (nothing worse than trying to spend a day at the mall with a guy who detests shopping x_x) and other girly ventures… I’m very nice! Haha. That sounds so pathetic.
Anywho. Thoughts? Has there been one of these dealios already? If so, how’d it go?

Maybe this should’ve gone in the San Francisco board. Hmm.

I live in Arizona but my Fiance lives in the bay area and we’re getting married there (ceremony in Palo Alto and reception in Saratoga). I’m out there about once a month working on wedding stuff, so I probably wouldn’t be around if there was a meetup. We haven’t figured out yet if I’m moving or if he’s moving, but if I end up there I’ll definitely need a new friend for shopping dates π

Where in the Bay do you live? I am in the outer richmond neighborhood but I travel to the peninsula often for work. I’ve never been to a meet-up, but it might be fun!

@Nferrari: Off topic, but I used to live in Richmond! Well, it was the Richmond/ El Sobrante area.

@MissCalifornia: Wow are you me? I moved to the east bay a few months ago and I’m finding it really slow going to meet people also. And I work from home, which so doesn’t help. Is your SO in the computer industry? I’m a software engineer and his coworker situation sounds very familiar to me! I’m also a fellow not yet engaged bee.
Anyway, count me in for a possible meetup, or just to hang out!

Oooooh, hey I’m a lonely South Bay transplant who isn’t yet engaged as well! We’re in Sunnyvale, and I’d LOVE to do a meet-up! Maybe happy hour somewhere?

@4cube: Wow, a female software engineer! I think there’s only 1 at my FI’s work, so I get what you mean about being surrounded by guys all the time. Whereabouts do you live in the bay?

@Nferrari: East of Berkeley – like in Walnut Creek area. I admit I sometimes wish I lived on the peninsula but SO totally LOVES it out here. So for now I just suck it up for the 40 minute trip into the city, haha.
Sounds like we should do this! Sometime in August maybe? Since we’re all pretty spread out maybe we should stick to a weekend.

@4cube: a weekend in August sounds like a great idea!
Any ideas for where? I have no idea where people normally do these meetups…

Omg y’all are planning this without me π I’ve been so busy lately, oops. We had friends from NY come to visit which has been awesome – I’ll be sad when they leave tomorrow.
@sah612: When you figure out who’s moving where, let me know if it’s here ’cause I am allll about more shopping buddies π Good luck with your wedding!
@ThinkingOutLoud: We could always try and extend it to become a NorCal meetup (or host one after a succesful Bay Area metup). I’d hate to have anyone feel left out!
@Nferrari: I’m in San Jose.
@4cube: Omg haha, so many similarities! He’s in software right now, but currently applying to a variety of jobs at places all over this general area – he’s got his master’s in IT Management and is looking for project management or social media stuff, mostly, ’cause that’s what he’s best at. I would definitely be interested in just grabbing coffee sometime if you’d like – are you near San Jose?
@ohmariemarie: Yay Sunnyvale! I love going through there on the Caltrain, it looks like a friendly city. I’d love to have an excuse to get off at that stop xD
@Regina Phalange: Omg your username is like my ABSOLUTE favourite on the Bee π I had no idea you were a Bay Area resident!
I have plans to be in SF on August 9th for an event in the evening. I could probably convince SO to get us a hotel room if we wanted to plan the meetup for sometime Saturday? I figure SF would prob be the ideal location since there’s tons of cool places and it seems like a central location for most of the ladies who’ve responded thus far.
Would we want to invite SOs as well or keep it ladies only? He’d probably LOVE an afternoon to go visit aircraft carriers while I discussed engagement rings and whatnot in an estrogen-filled setting xD

@MissCalifornia: I’m going to be out there the weekend of August 9th. I don’t know what we have planned yet (we’ve been fitting in catering tasting appointments to all my visits), but if there’s a meet up I’ll see if I can fit it in. My Fiance lives in Daly City, but we’re also down south a lot because his sister lives in Sunnyvale and we’re getting married in Palo Alto with the reception in Saratoga, so all of our caterer appointments have been down that way as well.

@MissCalifornia: Yay!
I’m in favor of meeting in SF, and August 10 works for me.
I vote ladies only, purely because I don’t relish suggesting to my SO that he should go with me to meet internet wedding strangers. Hahaha π
