Looking for the best tasting BBQ for our wedding reception! I’m not too keen on Sticky Fingers or the other chains. I am hoping for maybe someone local or someone who does it on the side…anyone know of anyone!?
Wanting to keep the catering budget below $3,000 for approximately 145 guests.

@cheriw86: Home Team BBQ caters! I LOOOVE Home Team (and it was FI’s and my first date, so I may be a little biased here) but I did pick up their catering menu when I was there this past month for our rehearsal dinner. I definitely think you could feed that crowd for under $3000.
Here are some examples, but I would call and have them send you a flyer (or if you PM your address, I can send you one because I ended up with two for some reason).
Dry Rubbed Chicken and Pulled Pork $9.95 per person, includes choice of 2 sides or salads, 2 home team sauces, buns, sweet and unsweet tea, ice, serving utensils and paper goods.
Their most expensive option is $15.25 per person (ribs and brisket) with the same extras.Their least expensive option is $7.95 per person (pulled pork only but still with extras).
They also do appetizers by the dozen or per person, for example–smoked turkey wraps are $2.50 per person. They also have assorted desserts where you spend $50 for 20-25 servings, if you aren’t doing traditional wedding cake.
Here is their website, where you can get a quote! Best of luck. I absolutely would recommend them.

- Wedding: October 2014 - Legare Waring House
@cheriw86: You may also want to look at Pit Cru – it’s a division of Cru Catering. Not sure who we’re using yet, but they’re on our radar.

If you want full service catering, Charleston Bay Gourmet has amazing catering and BBQ. I also love home team and Melvin’s.

I love that you’re wanting to get outside of the chains! We were going to use The BBQ Joint in North Charleston – they have mega tasty food but I wasn’t …clicking with the owner so wasn’t 100% vested in the idea. A quick and random trip to Lexington, SC led us to Hudson’s Smokehouse and I was immediately sold – they know how to do BBQ buffet!
We’re feeding 120 a buffet meal + Hudson’s is supplying a bar attendant for 4 hours (we supply keg & wine) for $2700. Unlike BBQ Joint, Amy @ Hudson’s acted more excited about our wedding than I do sometimes!!
I give Fiery Ron’s a nod, though – for sure!
Obviously I’ve just discovered this local section on the boards, so – sorry if I’m a little late on this!!

I second Home Team all the way!!! Their food is amazing and catering prices look great. They also do a BBQ taco bar which I have heard great things about!
