Ovulation while charting follows a 6/3 rule meaning that ovulation is detected after 6 consecutive low temps followed by 3 consecutive high temps. Your chart looks very rocky with huge spikes and dips (3 degrees, where usually 0.5 degree temp shift signals O). Are you temping orally? This could be introducing some error if you sleep with your mouth open.

I don’t think it’s possible to know if you sleep with your mouth open, you’re sleeping! Temp vaginally and it will be more accurate.

keya :  That’s odd. Do you clean the thermometer after? Use rubbing alcohol to sanitize it. I would say you’re not going to get accurate/interpretable results if you keep temping orally. There’s too much noise in your reading to detect ovulation. Are you temping while TTC or to avoid?

Are you taking your temp at the same time every morning and leaving the thermometer in until it beeps? Those spikes and dips are so extreme bee! I agree with pp – assuming you’re temping at the same time every morning and you know your thermometer is reliable, I would try temping vaginally cause FF isn’t gonna be able to make any sense out of those temps!

ETA: there’s no reason your thermometer should give you an infection if you clean it with rubbing alcohol every day and store it safely.

keya :  I dunno bee I think your thermometer is busted or something else really odd is going on. You’ve got temps spanning more than 4 whole degrees. Your temperature really shouldn’t fluctuate that wildly at all unless you’re sick, no matter when you’re taking it. You have temps in the 93 and below range – that’s crazy and it’s making me doubt the accuracy of your thermometer. I would maybe look into getting another BBT thermometer. When you take your temperature, leave the thermometer in your mouth for about 30 seconds after it beeps.

Try a new thermometer maybe?  That is a crazy, temperature should not vary down to like 93 to 96.  I sleep with my mouth open sometimes, in or out of the covers, with the room as cold as 60 deg or warm at 78, could wake up at a 630 or 10am, with 6 hr sleep or 9 hours sleep, and my temp would have only 0.2-0.3 deg variation temping orally with very clear ovulation rise.  I would paced it in the same place under tongue with mouth closed.

I would pick up a new thermometer and really make an effort to temp at the exact same time at least 5/7 days of the week.

BBT thermometers aren’t hard to find. You can get them at the drug store for less than $10. You just need one that will read 1 or 2 decimal places. I got a nice one on amazon because I wanted a light up screen. I believe it was $25 and reads 2 decimal places, but I just always round up to 1.
