I was regular right away when I went off the pill and had been on it forever too. Also, the pill should prevent ovulation so you wouldn’t know… I say should because I was on low dose pills and my ovaries tried to ovulate through it which resulted in cysts. I think different sources will tell you different things. My obgyn said you only need to be off for a cycle, where as my acupuncturist advised stopping at least 3 months prior to TTC.

Provided you’re on a pill that is not the mini-pill, you will not be ovulating. That’s how birth control works — it tricks your body into thinking it is already pregnant, so you don’t ovulate.

I was not on birth control as long as you were but I was on it almost five years straight. I was pregnant within four months of finishing it.

Edit: I was not having regular cycles after getting off the pill. It was not uncommon for me to skip periods, which is why I wasn’t surprised when I didn’t have one when I got pregnant. Sore breasts were my first, and only symptom.

I stopped the pill in the middle of November and got pregnant six weeks later. I had been on the pill for several years. So yes it’s possible to get pregnant quickly after stopping. And I’m 39 so no spring chicken!

snowflake2016:  The information our Provincial NurseLine gives is that if you have not had a period three months after stopping the pill, you should see your doctor. It is however not uncommon to take a few months. It can depend on what your cycles were like before you went on the pill.

I was on the pill from 17 to 25, and I am not pregnant at 30. My cycles are very inconsistant though and we weren’t really trying until about a year ago. A good friend of mine got pregnant in two cycles, so it really just depends on your body.

I was on the pill for 11 years from age 17.  It took three months for my period to return, then another three months to get another one, slowly over nearly two years it is beginning to regulate!! But is basically coming every 5 weeks now.  Took a long time to get any type of reqular cycle.  Pre pill I was very regular every 28 days! Pill definitely messed my body up!! Glad I stopped it when I did as we’re hoping to start TTC after July! ๐Ÿ™‚

I was on the pill from 16 to 24 and I got my period after about six weeks. They’ve been amazingly regular since then…almost down to the hour sometimes.

As far as I know the pill works to stop you ovulating. Once you’re off the pill and ovulating normally though, you will know! You won’t want to let your man out of the house lol .

No idea about the pregnancy bit, I came off it because I didn’t like it, not because I was TTC.
