@Payless:  You cannot have an abortion without first being pregnant.

A fertalized egg isn’t a baby, so I don’t see the big deal.

Also, you’re taking BC cause you don’t want to get pregnant. So, blessing in disguise?

@Payless:  BCPs don’t cause an abortion, they prevent a pregnancy. Rarely is an egg fertilized while on BCPs.  You cannot have an abortion if you’re never pregnant.

You should probably stop listening to people that don’t have a firm grasp on the science behind BCP. No, they aren’t abortion pills. You should discuss this with your doctor if you have concerns.

Birth control pills do not cause abortions.  People get pregnant every year while on birth control pills.  Anyone who posts BS like this is not someone worth listening to and should be ignored.

@Payless:  You should personally view it like this: birth control pills PREVENT pregnancy, so their use is NOT the same as abortion.  Because that is the truth…it’s not a matter of opinion.

@Payless:  MOST BCPs work by preventing ovulation – they will, as PPs have stated, in the off chance that both an egg is released AND then fertilized, also prevent the implantation and development. There is probably not a whole lot of data on this…I don’t see how their could be, but that’s the gist.

There ARE abortion pills on the market, but BCPs are meant to prevent pregnancy, not end it. I’m really not trying to be snotty, but it’s not actually a matter of opinion. Whether or not you morally believe that a woman should be preventing ovulation and therefore pregnancy, is a different matter. Spreading misinformation is so easy these days.

No. BCP’s do not perform abortions.

No. BCPs prevent the egg from maturing enough to be fertilized. Obviously, sometimes that fails and people end up pregnant. Ever watch those “I Didn’t Know I Was Pregnant” shows? Some of those women go their entire pregnancy taking BCPs.
