Did you brush your teeth, drink water, etc in that 30 minutes?  A lot of things can affect your temp.  Was it significantly lower, or just a few points?  I have 2 brands of thermometers, and if I seem to be getting questionable readings on one, I’ll double check with the other, but they’re always end up pretty close.

Sometimes I’ll check my temp multiple times out of curiousity, but I find it’s less confusing to only take the one first waking temperature, and as long as my chart is overall down pre-O and up post-O, a few odd temps aren’t worth stressing over.

Is this the only reason you’re questioning whether it’s working, or have you had other issues with your temps?  Anyway, I’ve had this happen to me too, and it’s actually pretty common in the fall/winter:  when I’m in bed for the whole night I get quite warm under the covers, but once I’m up I get a little chilly.  Eating and drinking also affect it.  I think the idea behind taking it every morning at the same time before you get up is that you’re keeping things constant–you aren’t active, and you have been doing the exact same thing all night, every night.

I would give it a couple of months now that your life is more settled.  Are you getting a period?  If you’re not getting a period for many months, or with more time of temping, you’re still not seeing a pattern, I’d check in with a doctor.

I hear the BD thermometers are pretty good, but if you’re worried, just pick up another at walgreens or target or wherever and see if you’re getting the same readings.  For 10 bucks, it might help you figure out what’s up.

Good luck!

Have you had someone else with more experience look at your charts?  You could also try the website fertilityfriend.  If you put in your temps, it analyzes your chart for you, and the site has many examples that you can look at so that you can compare your chart to what others are seeing.
