Someone recently told me NOT to bd every day so that the sperm can regenerate etc. I got very confused because the app I use and the book I read said “Try to have sex *at least* every other day during your fertile window”. The AT LEAST part makes it sound like more sex is better, not worse. If sperm really needed to regenerate etc, wouldn’t this be brought up in the apps/books/forums? And why is it so hard to find the answer online?
Somebee knows the real science, I hope? 🙂

We tried every other day.

My doctor said EOD is plenty but if you hit a couple days in a row it’s no big deal.

it will also depend on your husband. if he has lower counts or motility issues it’s better to give him time to replenish, but some guys are super sperm producers and can go every day without an issue.

Every other day is plenty, it only takes one of them, you can get pregnant by having sex once. Hitting a few days in a row isn’t bad. If you want to do it every day, more power to you. I think waiting for sperm to replenish is more important if the man has lower sperm levels- so every other day might be best for some men. And since EOD is also enough to get pregnant by healthy men I think EOD is great as a general rule.

So I found this little blurb which is linked to two studies (of which I’m sure there are many more). It kind of supports the EOD, but like it points out, when looking at a man’s 2 consecutive ejaculations, the 2nd might have better swimmers! Also, it takes sperm 2 1/2 to 3 months to mature, so if your man has made any lifestyle changes to improve his sperm, it takes awhile for those good sperm to make it into his semen.
FWIW the month I got pregnant we BD -3, -1 and my O day. Good luck!

I think the reason they generally say EOD is that if you do it everyday, some couples are likely to burn out. This in an interesting read if TTC. http://www.kidspot.com.au/birth/conception/fertility/7-surprising-fertility-facts

My dr said every other day or once a day during FW, but NOT twice a day.

I have always been told Every Other Day EOD. Less likely to burn out and also time for sperm to replenish.
Also sperm can live from 2 to 5 days after sex in the vagina. I have heard it being said that male sperm life 2 days and female sperm live 4-5 days, after intercourse. But I am not sure how accurate that is.

I’ve also always been told EOD, so that the male can produce new, fresh sperm. Makes sense.

Thanks everyone!! Very interesting. I guess EOD is best but I always get nervous that somehow EOD will miss the day it really counts or something…I’ll try to relax about that and do EOD….

My RE told us every other day.
Because sperm lives inside you for 2+ days or something you don’t have to worry about hitting the exact right moment.

Every other day is usually the recommendation, since a) fresh sperm last several days inside the body, and b) it’s considered optimal for sperm count to have some time to recover in between ejaculations. So you don’t really need to worry about missing the exact day, and the app you’re using is misleading.

I’ve heard that it is more likely (how much I’m not sure) that the girl sperm live longer than male sperm (which are supposed to be faster but die sooner) but I still think you have close to a 50/50 shot! I got pregnant with my DD from sperm that were from 4-O and now I am pregnant with a boy from 5-O. I have actually heard sperm might live up to 7 days long. Scary lol. Sperm can definitely live for 5 days inside your body and you can get pregnant from it

Im with you. I worry that with EOD I might miss an optimal say even though I know sperm can live up to 5 days. We were BD’ing EOD for the past few months, but this cycle we decided to go every day while I had ewcm. This turned out to be 9 days!! I’m 12dpo now but waiting to test, fingers crossed!
The reason we decided to switch to every day was because of this article I read on FF.
