BD timing around OPK

i would say if you do enough months of opk, you can track down the time frame of when it starts to turn positive, and then just time to start BD a day or two before you know you will get the positive, and then a few days after it turns back to negative.

ive never had luck with OPK, obviously still TTC. I did temping and found that to be yes a pain, but a lot less stressful when it came to timing BD then guessing with OPKs

Yeah everyone’s different with OPKs. For me, I usually ovulate on the same day my OPK is positive, but other people ovulate as much as 3 days later. As pp said, after you use them for a few months you’ll probably get a better handle on how soon after +OPK your temp spikes and can time things better.

Since I O so soon after my positive OPK, we start BDing a few days before I anticipate a positive OPK. Basically as soon as I notice EWCM or watery CM, we get going with the BDing.

My OBGYN recommends BDing every other day during your fertile window. I was more…proactive and we DTD every day or multiple times per day. I’m 6+ months pregnant, so it worked well for us.

SweetyBee :  I don’t think you missed your window! You’re fine! But get busy, girl!

SweetyBee :  I usually O’d 12-24 hours after a positive OPK.  I think the easiest “rule” to follow is to have sex when you have fertile cervical fluid.

kes18 :  Agreed.

Since charting again (my Dirty Delete is 2.5) I’ve seen I get 4 days of EWCM and get a positive OPK on day 3 of EWCM and another positive on day 4 of EW which usually is the day I O. So if I started BDing the first day of EWCM and continued through O I’d have really good timing that cycle. With Dirty Delete we DTD when fertile without skipping days in between just to be sure we had good timing and got as much spermies in there as possible in hopes of one getting to the egg! 😉

ETA: OP, Sperm can live inside you for up to 5 days, so doing the deed on O day plus for 4 days before O would cover your fertile window. So both of the people you mentioned above are right, DTD a few days before positive OPK as well as the few days following a positive will give you the best chance.

SweetyBee :  I had +OPK and EWCM in PM, BD’ed, and by next morning I had a temp rise. My RE says your LH can be elevated for up to 24h after O, so I’d keep in mind that your. +OPK could be catching tail end of your LH surge. With that said, the egg can live 12-24h so I’d think BDing up to a few hours after O can still easily result in pregnancy… make sense ?

SweetyBee :  If you Bd’d yesterday and O today, you’re good. Wouldn’t hurt to BD one more time for good measure, but don’t stress about it!

SweetyBee :  It only takes one day and one sperm to get pregnant, bee! This cycle Darling Husband and I did EOD, not really by choice though. He was having a tough time on the two days we tried using preseed and it just didn’t happen. But the past 6 months we hit ED in the FW, maybe missing one day. But this cycle with accidental EOD worked for us. I think maybe we were trying too often before?

at my most recent RE visit, the Dr. said to BD everyday for three days once you get the first positive, makes sense from what ive read and been told in the past.
