mrssloan2013:  I absolutely adore that princess neil lane of yours!  It’s one of my favorites on thebee! Oh,  and of course, I love the top one as well! They’re both to die for!

I’ve had the gamut.  I’d say it’s about 50/50 regarding comments. A lot of men actually comment on it, their comments are universally positive.

Women however have made snarky comments . Mainly in the backhanded compliment fashion, “that’s nice but I wouldn’t feel comfortable wearing it when there are starving children in the world” actual comment from woman in JFK airport…lol

    Sometimes I LOVE it and sometimes I think it’s a bit clunky…lol

I forgot to say the most common comment I receieved from people is “Oh, that’s so… delicate!”. Some were more blunt “well, it IS small, but whatever, as long as you both like it”, others said it was “dainty”. Just once, a couple days ago, a woman at the store said my diamond shined and sparkled so much that she couldn’t take her eyes off and it suits me better that a giant 5ct ring. I was very happy to hear it. I think my diamond is a goog quality one, but damn, it is small 🙁 The comments don’t make me feel any better.

I didn’t love it when I first got it but I LOVE it NOW!! Most people gave me the “Do you like it??” when I first got it.

I had casually mentioned before that I would like a solitaire with a thin yellow gold band and was a bit disappointed when I received my small split shank princess halo white gold engagement ring. My fiancé was in between jobs at the time and really wanted to propose for my birthday and we only have one jewellery store in our small town so there wasn’t a huge selection. He said he was really nervous that I wouldn’t like it but chose it over the solitaires as he said my ring just looked prettier. When we brought it in to be sized he said I could exchange it for something else if I wanted and so I tried on a few other rings. Although some were pretty they just didn’t feel like my ring. When I looked at my ring there in the store, although it wasn’t my style or as large as I had hoped it to be, it just felt like my ring and I knew I couldn’t part with it! Every time I catch myself looking down at it and smiling because of how much it reminds me of him, I know I made the right decision!

    What I had always wanted:

I showed it to him, and he said, “Oh honey, we can do better than that.” I was really excited!

I actually really loved it because it came with such a beautiful proposal from someone I love very much! And then a bunch of cruel, ignorant people made me feel bad about it not being a diamond, three of whom had the exact ring I wanted. I know that he values uniqueness and put a lot of effort into finding me an extremely rare gemstone. So I’ve got to learn to love it again, viewing it with the same pride as he does, and not comparing myself to others who picked spouses that value tradition.

framarianna:  Thanks! It’s a padparadsha sapphire, a very rare gemstone. I’ve only seen two others in my entire lifetime, and neither were as saturated a color as this one.

My Fiance custom designed mine, only knowing my likes based on what I said about rings that girls I knew who had just got engaged had. I had no idea he was even thinking of proposing. I always wanted a round brilliant halo, but he did SO much more! He put diamonds from his late-grandfathers ring into the band, and made the profile super intricate! I absolutely love it

My FH thought the ring that shall not be named was to flashy. Later he admitted he thought it was hideous and had no idea why I liked it. He thinks solitaires are ok but he doesn’t really pay attention to jewlery.

I’m very glad it’s gone now because I definitely don’t want a ring he thinks is hideous. Lol.

Mine isn’t anything I would have envisioned, but I am totally in love with it! I think the uncommonness of the stone shape adds to its appeal for me even more

vivaciousbride1989:  that’s such a horrible thing to say. Why would you look up the price of a GIFT online? Do you do that with every gift you get? Your fiancé loves you and he wants to be with you for the rest of his life, you should be thankful that he even got you a ring. He shouldn’t have to upgrade your ring to make you happy, and you shouldn’t be disappointed in him for not going into debt to get you your ‘big rock’. It’s a rock. Be thankful this man wants to marry you at all.

olna:  LOL honestly I didnt’ like mine at first.  I had always dreamed of having this fancy ring and when I saw it I was kind of dissapointed.  But after the shock wore off and I looked at it more closely I fell in love with it.  Then my Darling Husband told me he had designed it and the meaning of it.  He tried to design it as a flower.  Kind of like a new beginning.  Here are two pictures.  I get a lot of compliments.  I love my set 🙂

    caligirl0011:

    Beautiful rings! I love a sapphire 🙂

I have a similar story. My guy proposed with a .3 ct solitaire that just underwhelmed me. It was what he could afford at the time and I was just happy to be engaged. We changed the setting to a 3 stone and that has been the setting from hell. It has been in and out of the shop about 7 times in 2 yrs. So he and I talked and decided to get me waht I wanted in the first place. My beautiful sapphire. Its not a unique setting since its from Helzberg, but no one around us has a sapphire Engagement Ring.
