Maybe you could get glass vases & put sand, starfish or shells in them? Or you could get other beachy items like surfboards, life-saver flags, maybe a lighthouse?

@CatyLady:  Cheers!

I have a suggestion that’s kinda cheesy, I saw it on My Kitchen Rules (Aussie cooking show – the 1st round has pairs host dinner party for judges & other contestants in their own homes).

Anyway – a couple from Australia’s Gold Coast sewed a tablecloth in blue with an old shaped yellow/gold in the middle to the represent sand & ocean of their hometown. They also did things like put little palm trees & swimmer/surfer people on there too. Like I said – bit cheesy, bit literal, but gets the beach idea across!

You can kinda see the tablecloth here in this pic: http://l.yimg.com/ea/img/-/120216/mg_162288_17jo8dr-17jo8e0.jpg?x=450&q=80&n=1&sig=ZsRS7Y1Oq_SLi9eAmXpz7w–

You could fill a shallow white tray with sand and add some candles , starfish, shells etc.

We’re having a beach wedding so our at-home reception will have a slight beach theme too it.

First our place cards are also our favors, each will be tied to a white fingerling starfish. They’ll be on diplay on a table for each guest to pick up and take to their seat.

Second the tables will have a centerpiece consisting of a blue mason jar full of flowers, several white scented votives, and one large starfish of varying styles propped up against the flower arrangement.

Finally, the path to the reception tent, the fence along the lake, and the perimeter of the site will be lined with tiki torches.

I feel like it’s really easy to get carried away with a beach theme so I wanted to stay mindful of keeping it from being too kitzchy. There was a starfish on our invites, and I’m giving my sister’s a small silver bracelet with a starfish on it as well. Hopefully we haven’t gone overboard!

Check out the DIY board here, there’s some great inspiration. For example, if you want something that’s a very natural beach feel then this gives a feel of driftwood dressed up. If you want a more tropical vibe, here’s an idea to line vases with bamboo. Here is a blog post I favorited from a vendor with lots of little vases for decor that utilize sand, shells, and starfish. If you go through the images in the slider bar, near the end you’ll find one where they tossed some giant palm leaves in a pool with little flower petals. You could take a similar idea and bring in relevant large leaves that can be a base to your centerpieces.

I think the suggestion by @julies1949 was excellent, and if you want to spruce it up more for your colors, you can use colored sand or colored candles.
