Go for a long veil, it’s so dramatic in pictures with the wind. Plus you only have to wear it a few minutes for ceremony and pictures and take it off after reception. You’ll regret not having it.

I wore wedge sandals. With the dr Scholls cushion super glued into the front of the shoe where the ball of your foot goes. It was comfortable.  Think of how you’ll feel, and take your shoes down to the beach to practice, to ease your mind. Go barefoot or wear wedge sandals. I had my cousin bring backup shoes in our wedding day “emergency kit”.

Here is my beach wedding dress (not really beachy at all but I love it!):

For the ceremony on the beach I’ll be going barefoot (along with all the BMs). The guys are going to wear something like boat shoes. For the reception I’ll going to put on flats.

princessbride1979:  I’m not a beach bride, but I am a beach wedding photographer. My best advice to choose a dress you love, despite if you think it’s “beachy”. In fact, I actually prefer a more structured fabric, as opposed to chiffon (aka : typical flowy beach dress) because there is almost always a breeze on the beach and chiffon tends to plaster to your legs when it’s windy out.

For hair, unless you’re getting married somehwere tropical with little humidity or wind, I am 100% hair up. Hair down tends to end up looking messy and for the love of all things hair, stay away from “tendrills”. They’re easy to manage during portraits, but during the ceremony they tend to fall forward and look terrible – and we certainly can’t stop your ceremony to fix your hair. 😉

I’m good with both veil or no veil. However, I always suggest beach brides have a backup (like a great flower hairpin) in case it ends up being super windy on your wedding day. Again, during portraits it’s no big deal to fix a crazy veil, but during a ceremony we won’t interject. I definitely have had more than one wedding where the brides face was covered the entire time by the veil on a windy day.

I’m a huge proponant of just letting the makeup artist do whatever they think is best. It’s like haircuts & clothing, the same thing doesn’t look good on the same people.

Barefeet for sure on the beach, and whatever you like for the reception. Shoes are aweful to walk in the sand, and flipflops are the worst because they flick sand up the inside of your dress as you walk. 🙂
