Okay – – So my wedding is June ’11. We are the country type, so it’s going to be an outdoor wedding in the middle of a feild but landscaped and surrounded by lanterns. I have grass umbrellas (like hawaiin kind) and beachy centerpeices with a dance floor surrounded by sand with sand chairs… etc. Would it look okay to have bails of hay for the seats for my wedding? Or should I stick to white chairs? Do the bails of hay go with the theme or am I clashing? I just really like the hay bails that have blankets and pillows thrown on them, though. I need some advice!

It sounds like you have a pretty consistent beach theme and the only thing country about your wedding is the fact that it’s in a field. I would stick with one overall theme, although the bails of hay would be cute with a country theme so I don’t think it was a horrible idea; it just doesn’t go with your theme.
Two more things to consider: comfort and accessibility. if you are having elderly guests, it may be hard for them to sit on a hay bail versus a normal chair. Even with blankets and pillows, if people are dressed really nicely for your wedding, they may not want to sit on hay and it may be kind of uncomfortable.

No problem!! Your post made me laugh because I’m having my wedding in a renovated dairy barn, but I currently live at the beach, so I’ve been mixing a little bit too much unconsciously, as well. 🙂 Good luck!

I don’t think the bales of hay would look bad at all. I think it is smart to use what you have available to your venue, and repurposing it to fit your theme. You mentioned that you were going to throw pillows and blankets over it. If you use a beachy blanket, I don’t see how that wouldn’t work.

@baldor1: Hmm, I guess I was picturing checkered blankets and all things country. I hadn’t considered beachy towels or blankets. Good point!

personally, I’d pick one or the other. I had a similar problem at the beginning of my planning. A part of me wanting very rustic and barny but my husband and the other part of me (who did some shopping) kept buying elegant things (like candelabras). At some point I looked at my wedding corner and realized it looks like shit, so I returned the barn-y stuff. My advice is to try an inspiration board and it’ll help you see if things really fit.
