I agree with pinkrokker – I had to order my dress based on what I thought it would look like on me. I did get to see it before ordering, but I couldn’t fit into it. I had tried on enough gowns and knew exactly what pieces looked good on me, and the gown I found had all the details I was looking for. I knew I wanted an asymmetrical waist, corset back, a-line, sweetheart neckline, beading on the bust and a good about of embroidery on a long train with tasteful beading.

One more thing…
@TheRen (and any other plus size brides in the Atlanta area), you MUST try Affordable Bridal in Buford. Their selection is like nothing I have seen anywhere else. They literally had over 120 dresses in sizes I could try on. And 90% of them were stylish and stunning. Maggie Sotteros, Essense of Australias, Casablancas, Mori Lees…
Like David’s, it’s not a full service salon. But the women who work there are very nice and totally do not discriminate based on size. Also, their prices are great — only slightly more than you’d spend online.

I love the dress that you posted! =)

I called every store before I went and made sure they had a variety of sizes in stock. I didn’t even step foot in one that didn’t have more than 10 samples over size 12. I emailed the managers of any bridal store with no samples over size 12 and made sure they knew they lost out on not only the wedding dress, but bridesmaids dress sales.
I think that if you want to see anything change for the brides after you you have to take steps to make sure that the owners/managers know what you didn’t have access to that you would have wanted.

- Wedding: April 2011 - The Tribute Golf Club
@ms. mini – I tried that dress on this past weekend, you look so beautiful in it!
I agree with pinkrokker – the problem is that so many places don’t carry a large selection of sample sizes to try on. Good luck!!

@ sulli, crebre and llc200 – Thanks so much for the comments. It was definitely not the easiest to find the dress, and I got sausaged into a lot of teeny samples. In the end I got pretty much what I went in looking for, and I can’t wait to see her (in my size) in April or May!

For a figure flattering dress, try 9t9309 from davids bridal. This is me in an unzipped 16w (i need to get it in 18w):
Can be paired with a sash from DB to make it less plain. 🙂

I ordered mine from Mori Lee. It hasn’t arrived yet but I think they go up to a size 28? Good luck!!

I ordered mine from another bride, but it is a DB dress I tried on in the store only 1 size too small. The first is in the store and second is mine in the correct size without any alterations done yet to take in the top that is a little too big. They told me at the store they could put a corset back in any dress….for a additional fee ( $180 was what they told me) and they had a ton of dresses in the 18-22 range. After 22 it went down a little.

The dress you posted is one of my favorites! 🙂 I also agree David’s Bridal has really come up with the plus sizes.

I’m glad that I’m not the only one who ran into this problem. I searched high and low, but couldn’t find a store that had fabulous plus-size dresses for me to try on. I would have preferred to buy a dress out the store, but had to settle for buying a street online from DB. Also, many DB dresses come in plus sizes. My DB dress was on sale and only cost $200, with the $50 online discount. (DB 9SAS1203) Check it out….

After trying on a ton of dresses over a 9 month period, I ended up ordering my dress from etsy! I cannot wait to get it on in June! I ordered from CiciBridal, but there are a ton of talented designers on etsy with beautiful dresses that’d look amazing on us plus sized girls! 🙂
