Hey all you “hive”rs! Needing a little help here. Mr. Notebook and I are working on a budget (and unfortunately, I’m over it *EEK!*) Anywho, I have short hair and am wanting long hair for my wedding, to wear down and curly.
Now, our big date is in about 5 months, so I have a little time to order them — anyone have a preferred brand of REAL HAIR extensions that I can order, that are also budget friendly? I don’t want to go too cheap and them not blend well or be good quality. But they have to be real human hair so they will be conducive to heat styling. Preferrably, I’m looking for clip-in extensions so I can use them for engagement pics and then again for the wedding.
Any help is greatly appreciated!

So I have been wearing extensions for a few years. I have a few questions… How short is your hair now? How long do you want it to be? What is the texture of your hair? Where do you live (oh wait… just saw this was houston)as I highly suggest buying them in person so you can feel them. note… a quick google search foudn this place and it looks very overpriced. http://www.mariarihair.com/ (the places I go are generally not too pleasing on the eye). You want a place that sells wigs typically. A good google search term is “lace front wigs”. Also ask your stylist. They aren’t dumb… they know where to get them.
As for wearing clip in Hoohrah! Yes, do this. Next budget friendly? Don’t order the premade ones. If you can thread a needle you can sew your own. They will fit you better and they will be much cheaper. I can walk you through the process. I get 20″ extensions (yes I have nautrally really long hair) and mine run me about 100$… make that 120$ with clips to be conservative. PM and I can get you through this whole process unless there are other girls out there who want to know how to do this.

My hair hits my shoulder right now and it’s really smooth, straight and thin. I can curl it all day long, and if there’s no humidity (very rare in Texas!!) Then it’ll last about 4-6 hours, with a lot of hair spray before I actually curl it. However, I can Chi it and it’ll last for days, since it’s naturally close to pin straight.
I can sew, and so can my mother so it’d be no problem to make my own, but I have no clue how. I’d love it if you could provide me with instructions on just how to do this.
As far as how long I want my hair, I’d like it to be curled, mid-back. So I’m thinking, after looking @ the premade extensions, I’d be buying the 18-22″ extensions.

I’m interested in learning the basics, too. I have the hair and the clips. But I don’t know how to size the wefts to my head because I’m not exactly sure about the standard placement. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I scored a set of human hair extensions (10)–the long ones, on ebay for $27 with free shipping! The color match looks pretty good, tho I’m taking them with me when I get my high/low lights done this week. If necessary, I would think they can be colored with the same products.

I ordered Hellogorgeous $99 special and they are amazing and amazingly long. The hair is real and matches my hair perfectly. You can watch reviews online on youtube. If you get them wash them before you wear them. I dont know about the long term quality but you can defiently wear them on your wedding day and again in the future. The are already sewed into I think 7 different wefts and it is a lot of hair. YOu probably dont want to wear all 7 at once.
I would place the wefts however you feel comfortable. You can watch youtube videos on this as well. I take two wefts and put them around the middle of my head kinda making one long weft and overlaping a bit, then I put a weft lower and one lower again. Make sure you backcomb your hair and use lots of hair spray before you put them it bc you dont want them falling out on your big day.
another thing about hellogorgeous is that they will exchange the color if it is not right and you can mix and match any colors to match your own hair.

there are also videos on youtube on how to make your own clip in extensions.

Luxy Hair extensions are AMAZING! I wish I had known about them before my wedding. Now I wear them all the time when I go out! They clip in and I ended up buying two sets. My hair is shoulder length, so I cut one set about halfway between the length of the long set and my natural hair length.

Yikes… I should type this up faster… a couple things before you guys ruin the extensions you have…
@sassy411: You can’t color those extensions. They have already been processed. I did it once… you might get a wear or two outof them but within a few hours the hair will be a matted rats nest. I suggest giving those extensions a practice run and seeing where and how long you want to tracks to be but going somewhere and having your hair matched for your wedding pair.
@gulbraa44: As I will explain in a bit you want to try and wash your extensions as little as possible. At a price of $99 you have extensions that have a silicone coating on them. They have a very mild werid smell but to wash that silicone off means that you will expose the mismatched cuticles of your hair. hat price point doesn’t afford you the luxury of having hair where the cuticle is lined up. You can style them all you want but I suggest not washing them.
