Yes, I have used them on excluded items… I think it depends on the store.

I will add, that what I recently learned is the 20% coupons don’t work online!  So, as a guest – if you are trying to take advantage of the discount and buy online and ship the gift – the discount is not so helpful!

I’ve only done it once and they took it, but they weren’t going to at first (I didn’t read the fine print and told them I would put the item back so I’m not sure if it was to ensure a sale or not)…I will say that I have ALWAYS been able to use expired coupons- like 6 months to a year past expiration.

If they’re the same price at BBB and Macy’s I’d add them to BBB because maybe a guest will luck out and be able to use the coupon.  Also, are there any special completion rewards for what you’re registered for at either store?  That’s something to consider too.

BBB coupons say they expire but I used 6 expired coupons the other day.  BOO-YAH!  Love BBB!  Also, another online tip for BBB.  If you go to the store and print the registry…and you wanna buy something that’s expensive to ship.  Find something that is not available in the store and add it to your purchase.  BBB will ship the not available item with what you planned to get for free.  For example, say you wanna buy a crockpot that would cost $10 to ship but you see a cake pan that’s not available in the store…add the $5 cake pan and the couple gets 2 gifts for less money than if you paid for the crockpot + shipping.  Get what I’m saying?  LOL more of a BBB shopping tip.  This only works if ya do it at the store.  I think if you buy it online they will charge ya shipping anyways.

I have used them on dyson products which are apparently excluded.

As a guest, I’ve found that Macy’s has great sales. I can normally get a better deal if I plan ahead. I also prefer shopping online and find it so annoying to have to go to the store, pick out the item, wrap and pack it, and ship it. As a guest, I’d prefer Macy’s hands down because they’ll do all that for free if I spend over $100 (which I normally do)

@Pollywog:  I totally agree on the sales thing at Macy’s!  I’ve been pleasantly surprised when I view people’s registries and see them on sale!  I will say that Macy’s is worse than BBB on returns.  Macy’s will give you store credit but BBB will give you cash (if you have the gift receipt).

@ktkoala:  If you were my FI’s friend (ie if he was in charge of buying the gift), he would go to Amazon in a heartbeat. We actually just had this conversation last night– he would rather pay full price on Amazon than have me to BBB to pick up the gift 20% off and ship it. If you were my friend, you would get a check.

@oracle:  We know about this and it is fine for us. We need things and I always can use work clothes (which I normally get at Macy’s). For us, it is a no brainer because we shop there often.

We registered for china on Amazon because it was always cheaper than Macy’s and BBB….free shipping and we had great customer service with them.

I have never paid attention to whether the coupon was expired or not but I love BBB. They also let you use expired coupons which is nice!

@SuperDuperBrit:  You can always use expired coupons at BBB.  I love it.
