I agree with the PPs – I’ve had bed bugs once before and they are a bitch to deal with.  You definitely need to get a professional in to come treat your apartment/home.

I’m so sorry this is happening to you. This happened to me once and it was so awful and stressful.  I have to run right now, but am commenting to bookmark this post. I’ll try to come back later with more info.

I was a renter at the time and our landlord called in professionals which did seem to take care of the problem, as did washing everything in hot water and encasing my mattress and boxsprings in plastic after the professionals did their thing. I can’t think of anything we got rid of.

Best of luck to you.

I recommend leaving a review of the hotel on the site bedbugregistry.com (and I recommend the site for any bees travelling!).

I know someone that had them.  Brought in a pro.  Found out they were in the couch too and had to have the pro come back THey also had to get rid off all soft furniture.

Bed bugs are scary!! Just reading this is making me itch! Than again, so does every news article or tv show/commercial about them.

We were so lucky! Our neighbors on either side of us had them & the other girl in our end of the hallway said she was starting to get them to. I found out when I got a call from my management company making arrangements to come and spray. That was a tough week!!

Neither of us saw any or got any bites but they came 2x to spray the perimeter of our apt. It only took about 15 mins for us, but those who were infected took about 2 hours.

Not sure if you’re on HelloBee, but in another thread today Mr. Bee mentioned that he and Mrs. Bee have extensive experience with getting rid of bed bugs..so you might want to pose this question on the HelloBee boards as well.

Good luck to you!

You don’t have to avoid hotels! You just need to check for them. When Darling Husband and I go somewhere, we leave all of our stuff by the door, and I go straight to the bed, strip a corner, look under the mattress, pull back the mattress seams, and closely examine that whole corner. If I’m feeling paranoid, I’ll put the sheets back and look at another corner. If I see nothing questionable, we’re good. I could check all the soft stuff, but if they’re in the room at all, they’re probably in the bed. They aren’t invisible! They just stay asleep until you go to sleep. 🙂

OP – what confirmation (if any) do you have that it is bed bugs?  Have you seen the bugs themselves?  Are your bites in groups of 3 or 4?  Do they form straight lines?

@sweetpea87:  I totally agree about hotels.  You don’t have to avoid them.  Just check them out first.

Has anyone had any luck with negotiating with hotels to cover the cost, or using small claims court?

Sorry you are dealing with this!
