Hey welcome to the hive!  We are going to St. Lucia in a few short weeks!  I’ll try to post when we get back how it was.  We choose it over the Bahammas because we wanted the mountain coastlines the other is mostly flat.  I also, had heard that Jamaica has crime to avoid going out alone without tour group.  That was a few years ago so not sure if that still holds true.

OOOH Cozumel is awesome! and really cheap! We stayed a playa azul hotel. It is actually cheaper to not do all inclusive there. There are so many things to do and you will spend less money if you book them yourselves versus doing all inclusive through the hotel. In mexico and maybe other places to companies pay the hotel to proote their business to tourists by including it in their package and that means you pay more money because the price is inflated to include the payment to the hotel for booking it. Also pay for everything in their currency not US. You will end up spending more money if you use US currency instead of pesos. We learned that on our trip as well. We had so much fun though and like I said everything was soooo cheap. I think we went for like 10 days for 2 or 3 thousand including flight and hotel and all of our spending money. We booked through http://www.raysofsuntravel.com. They were either cheaper than the big travel sites or around the same price. Make sure you print your confirmation for what you booked and bring it with you where ever you booked. Sometimes the booking gets confused and they may not give you the room you booked. My husband is 6 4 and about 240 and we booked a king size bed and they tried to put us in a room with two full size beds lol. Keep us updated on what you decide! Oh and that site does have all inclusive too if you decide you want to go that rout still. Good Luck!

Would you consider a cruise? Cruises have all of the above and you can go to several locations.

My sis and bil always go to a gorgeous spot in Jamaica, Round Hill, and do their all inclusive plan and rave about it.  They’re also pretty well-traveled too!

T adores Jalousie Plantation (soon to be Tides Resort–Sugar Beach) in St. Lucia.  It’s gorgeous!  Great food, nice beach, romantic bungalowes with plunge pools and great views of the Pitons.

Welcome to the Hive!

I went to the Sandals Regency in St. Lucia a few years ago and it was amazing!  We stayed for 7 days and I didn’t want to come home.  I highly recommend it.

Welcome! I would recommend Playa del Carmen in Mexico, you can even do a day trip to Cozumel from there for cheap. Lots of things to do and see!

I went to Cozumel years ago in October.  It was beautfiful, and there was a lot to do there.  And I have to say, the one day I didn’t really enjoy was the day the cruise came in.  That instantly made everything much more crowded, made it harder to do anything, and raised the prices at all the stores.  If you want to do things on land, I’d say that staying in one place tends to be a lot better than cruising.

I haven’t been to Jamaica, and don’t plan to.  Between the crime rate and the general hatred of gay couples, it would definitely make me nervous.

Been to Jamaica and Cozumel each twice.  Both have their merits.

We stayed at the Riu Negril in Jamaica both times and the food is incredible, there’s always fun things on the beach (steel drummers, reggae bands, cookouts), the weather is amazing, and the resort is nice.  I left the resort on many occasions and never felt unsafe.

In Cozumel, we stayed at the Iberostar, which I HIGHLY recommend.  The food was not that great, but the hotel rooms were incredible!  They’re like a 4-room hut, so you’re not sharing a gigantic hotel with a million other people.  The rooms had a rustic wooden balcony and a hammock, which I laid in every day.  Plus, it’s a quick boat ride to Playa Del Carmen, which is my favorite tropical city ever.

I have been to St. Lucia and Cozumel.  They are both are wonderful for snorkeling but if you are looking for more hiking-day excursions etc I would go to St. Lucia.  Cozumel doesn’t have any mountains for hiking and if you wanted to do any excursions then you would have to take the ferry over to the main land.  I went to Cozumel and Scuba Dived 3 times a day for a week.  If you want to dive, the diving in Cozumel was better than St. Lucia.

St. Lucia has hiking, zip lining (super fun btw), horse back riding, a day trip to Martinique.  Anyway I think it has more things to do.  We stayed at the Sandals Halcyon Bay.  Which is smaller than the other 2 sandals on the island.  You can go eat at any of the other restaurants at any resort which is nice.
